And, the whole school population of St. Columban School sat out on the school lawn for an hour Monday morning watching as well. "We took them out there because it was history in the making," said principal Dawne Boersen. "They probably don't understand the full impact now but the kids won't forget it. When they're adults, they'll remember it was a big day that day," she said. While the students at St. Columban are comprised of several parishes from Hensall to Mitchell, Boersen said some of the students and the staff have memories of St. Columban Church. "It's an emotional day for a lot of people. The real emotion happened when the parish closed but this is bringing closure to the whole thing," she said. "It really will change the land- scape. It's a visible sign of how rural. communities are changing," said Boersen. "We found them in the corner- stone. The tin box wasn't sealed so the newspapers had deteriorated but there were also a nickel, dime, penny and quarter in the box," said Murray. Murray said it hasn't yet been decided if the monument will be erected on the site of the church or at the St. Columban cemetery. She said the idea came from St. Michael's Church in Blyth which was closed recently and demolished as well. In Blyth, a cairn was erect- ed with a picture of' the church on the front and a history on the back. Murray said scholarships will also be created at both St. Anne's and St. Michael Secondary Schools in St. Columban Church's name. "St. Columban Church will be remembered," she said. iligh INDIAN RIVER DIRECT Oa Ile *Citrus Truckload Sale* Me EXTRA LARGE GEORGIA FREESTONE PEACHES IIII0.08169 s 27.00 125 1b.
