Seaforth Manor residents
enjoying sunshine and flowers
There have been many
days at the Seaforth Manor
Retirement Home where we
have been enjoying the nice
sunshine and flowers out on the
patio.
We are looking forward to the barbecues
every Thursday on the patio.
Last month in May we were very busy here
at the Retirement Home. We enjoyed a won-
derful cake to go with our Mother's Tea.
Friday night Bingo is always a great time for
everyone.
We also very much enjoyed Diner's Club
with the Kountry Korners Band entertaining
us. The Western Entertainers also thrilled us
with their entertainment.
Cindy and Urie continue to visit us every

Monday for pet therapy at cof-

does Urie steal the hearts of
our residents.
Our ,upcoming events that we
are looking forward to this month are our
Perennial and Hot Dog Sale on June 3, our
annual Strawberry Social on June 25,
Father's Day barbecue on June 15, and
Canada Day celebration on June 30.
Some of our residents will also be out and
about at Dining for Seniors throughout the
month.
The macular degeneration seminar was a
huge success. Dr. Sanderson and Louise
Beaucamp made presentations to all who
attended.
Queensway a busy place
during Hensall's yard sale
Queensway's corner at the
Hensall Community Yard
Sale was a very busy place
Saturday, May 27.
Volunteers, staff and family
members donated items for
the sale and helped, whether
with selling, barbecuing or
wheeling residents around
town to see the sights.
Staff members Elaine
Stebbins, Theresa Bedard
and Julie Grimminck recently
receive 10 -year pins for their
involvement in the VON
Volunteer Palliative Care pro-
gram. The presentation took
place at the Festival Inn at
Stratford on May 28. A large
number of staff have complet-

Adults over 55 need help
getting required nutrients
Q: Why do adults over the age of 55
have difficulty fulfilling their vita-
min requirements? How can they
fulfill these requirements? Kim
Arrey, a registered dietitian in
Montreal, offers suggestions.
A: As we get older our body becomes
less efficient at absorbing and/or
processing certain nutrients.
Therefore, as we age, we need to
make food choices that are as nutri-
tious as possible. In addition, older
individuals often consume less food,
either to lose weight, or because
their appetite has decreased.
Although, our bodies require slight-
ly fewer calories as we get older, it is

important to ensure that we are still
getting the required nutrients to
maintain good health. In addition to
consuming a well-balanced diet,
many dietitians and geriatricians
suggest that all individuals over the
age of 55 take a multivitamin.
Recent studies show that seniors
who take multivitamins and/or min-
eral supplements visit the doctor's
office less often, and have fewer
colds, flu etc. For these reasons, I
recommend seniors take a well-bal-
anced complete multivitamin spe-
cially formulated for those aged 55
plus.
