Big Bike fundraiser raises half
of last year's total in Huron
Although a good chunk of money was raised
for the Heart and Stroke Foundation last
week during the Big Bike for Stroke cam-
paign, organizer Keith Courtney says he is
slightly disappointed.
InHuron County, $9,300 was raised
amongst five teams.
"That's about half of what was raised last
year," says Courtney.
"I'm pleased because it's a considerable
amount of money, but I'm disappointed
because it is lower than last year."

Riding the 29 -seat bicycle at the Clinton
Raceway were teams from Huronview and
Huron Lea, the Clinton Public Hospital,
Heartland Community Credit Union and the
Walniart in Goderich and the Clinton
Raceway.
In Seaforth, the only team to ride the bike
was made up of employees of the Seaforth
Community Hospital and Seaforth Medical
Centre.
In addition, the municipality of Huron East
donated some money towards the campaign,
totalling a little over $2,000 in dona-
tions from Seaforth.

Last year 14 teams participat-
ed in Seaforth alone, raising over
$20,000.
Courtney believes many of the
Seaforth-based teams that have par-
ticipated in previous years were
turned off from participating after
the decision was made to hold the
Big Bike for Stroke out of town, as
opposed to in Seaforth, where it was
held the last two years.
He adds that after hearing this
organizers made the decision to _add
a day in Seaforth.
The majority of the money
raised through the campaign goes
towards research at the Heart and
Stroke Foundation, with the remain-
ing money split on funding health
programs and fundraising efforts.
Courtney says prior to next
year's campaign he will be making
some decisions as to where it will be
held.
"Over the winter we're going to
have to decide if it should be in one
place or in one place one year and
another the next," he says.
"I'll talk with the teams and
get a consensus of what will work
best," he adds.
