award for lifetime achievement
Susan Hu'ndertmark
Afterliving at the Seaforth Manor
for 22 years, Pat Ryan is often. con-
sidered its
spokesperson,
especially as an
advocate of other
residents.
And, his active
role in the Manor
community has
earned him a life-
time achieve-
ment award from
the Ontario Long
Term Care
Association
(OLTCA).
"I don't know
what the resi-
dents would do
without him,"
says the Manor's
Director of Care
Diane Anderson.
"He's a good
advocate for a lot
who can't speak
for themselves
and he's done
eulogies for resi-
dents' funerals
and does a really
good job," she
says.
"Pat is very
well known with-
in Seaforth
Manor for his
leadership abili-
ties," says
Administrator
Cathie Schalk in
a nomination let-
ter.
"He is never at
a loss for ideas
for the activation
department. He
is known to make
people both
laugh and cry
with his witty
recollections of
his fellow resi-
dents," says
Schalk.
Ryan moved
into the Seaforth Manor in 1982
and has been president of the resi-
dents' council for much of that time.
His daily volunteer jobs include
greeting new residents, writing let-
ters to residents' families, wheeling
other residents into their meals at
the dining room and writing the
lunch and supper
menus on the
blackboard.
"I try to put it
