Huron Expositor, 2006-05-03, Page 13The Huron Expositor • May 3, 2006 Page 13 Seaforth Manor's Pat Ryan wins OLTCA award for lifetime achievement Susan Hu'ndertmark Afterliving at the Seaforth Manor for 22 years, Pat Ryan is often. con- sidered its spokesperson, especially as an advocate of other residents. And, his active role in the Manor community has earned him a life- time achieve- ment award from the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA). "I don't know what the resi- dents would do without him," says the Manor's Director of Care Diane Anderson. "He's a good advocate for a lot who can't speak for themselves and he's done eulogies for resi- dents' funerals and does a really good job," she says. "Pat is very well known with- in Seaforth Manor for his leadership abili- ties," says Administrator Cathie Schalk in a nomination let- ter. "He is never at a loss for ideas for the activation department. He is known to make people both laugh and cry with his witty recollections of his fellow resi- dents," says Schalk. Ryan moved into the Seaforth Manor in 1982 and has been president of the resi- dents' council for much of that time. His daily volunteer jobs include greeting new residents, writing let- ters to residents' families, wheeling other residents into their meals at the dining room and writing the lunch and supper menus on the blackboard.
