"We have been beating the bushes for funds and we will definitely start up again in September. We plan to keep going as long as we can," says long-time volunteer Penny Breen.. A fundraising spaghetti dinner held in Seaforth on Sunday is just one of the many events the band has been holding this year to make up for a shortfall since being cut off from Trillium Foundation funding after a $33,000 four-year grant. . Band organizers visited Huron County municipalities earlier in the year asking for .help since they weren't sure they'd survive until the band's 50th anniversary in 2007. "There is no lack of interest. Every year we get a new crop of kids. And, every cent is going to the kids - there just aren't enough cents," says Breen. Recent media attention has brought out donations that Breen says the band may have never accessed otherwise. "We've been getting more support this year than we've gotten for years," she says, adding that dona- tions have been coming from people who used to have children or grand- children involved. "But, we have to keep this momentum going. The community has rallied around us but we hope they'll continue to think of us in their annual givings," says Breen. Upcoming fundraising events include working at a community yard sale in Auburn this weekend, selling hotdogs in Goderich on May 24 and running a booth at the Clinton Fair on June 11. The Calgary trip is the third time performing at the Stampede - the two other trips occurred in 1985 and 1989. The band's performances will be held at the Stampede, at the Spruce Meadows equestrian event and at the Saddledome. "It's going to be a lot of work but it will be something the kids will never forget," says Breen.
