The teacher, Mr. Howard, and the candid- ates are to be congratulated on the excellent result FORMER RESIDENT DEAD. Death came very suddenly, to Mr. E. Hanham at his home:in St. Marys on, July 8th,, Born in York County in 1840 he came to St, Marys about (45 years ago and w(as married 44 years, His wife died a few months ago. De- ceased was of quiet reserved disposi- tion, isposition, and was a. great lover of stand- ard bred trotting horses, and was also a successful breeder. One daughter, and two sons survive. The late Mr. Hanham some years ago conducted the Commercial Hotel in Exeter, and. was very favorably known, BOWLING. At the Friday night bowling tour- ney two rinks composed, of C. Wares, W. J. Statham, R. Mawhinney; and Th.s. Elliott, W. C. Rivers, True. Elliott tied with three wins and 8 plus; and in the pay-off the first ment- tianed rink won getting first prize, while the others got second. The local bowlers are at present f engaged in the President's Scotch Double Tourney -so called because the, event is far four handsome prizes donated by the presidceant, Mr. G. E. Anderson, The skips drew the names of their leads from a hat ,and three games will be played, on a plus and minus basis„ Two Exeter rinks skipped, by R. G Seidon, and Dr. Roulston attended the Stratford Tourney on Wednesday of last week. The former had with hien W. C. Rivers W. E, Sanders and 'T, R., Ferguson, and they got within an ace of four wins, losing the fourth. game on an extras end. Wednesday evening in a Ford coupe had his attention, drawn to a group of people; who had been examining a steam automobile, and. not noticing the horse and buggy of Bea- ver boys, Exeter North, standing in front of Heaman's Hardware Store, the: car struck, the, buggy separating it from the horse clear and ,clean, and carried it in front of the car ,for a rod. The horse was thrown down by then impact ,but was little injured. The buggy and harness were somewhat dam aged, and the car had a bent bump- er and mud guard, The car owner acknowledged his fault and we under- stand agreed to make good the damage AUTO ACCIDENT. Messrs. H. Shaw, W. j. Carter, W. J. Hambly .H. Sharp, and H. Rance; of Clinton, when on their way toi attend a meeting of the creditors of the Jackson Company in London, ionThurs day, met with ant accident at the first turn on the Landon Road into Cen- tralia. :The driver, .not noticing the turn one 'of his companions' when near the spot said "turn here" and in do- ing so they got cors the grass' and the car overturned with the whole bunch underneath. Luckily the telephone gang, under Mr. 'Wm. Hadfield, was working near, and hastened to their assistance", turning off the ignition, and with the help of others the car 'was lifted, off the me.n„,whe,n it was found .that with the exception of a /few cuts and bruises no one was seriously injured.
