day a big
success
with
electronic
waste weighing almost
8,000 pounds, the e -
waste collection in
Seaforth on Saturday
gathered more in one
day . than the total
collected at the Walton
landfill site since it
began accepting e -
waste six months ago.
"We were expecting
it to be a big day by
the calls we've been
getting over the past
few weeks," said
Huron East Deputy -
Clerk Brad Knight.
He said close to two
dozen people called
after a flyer
announcing the pick-
up day was sent out to
ratepayers.
Knight arrived at
town hall Saturday
morning to find
several printers and
computer monitors
stacked outside of the
building waiting for
the pick-up.
"It shows what a
properly -advertised
one -day event can do,"
said Knight.

heated Grey deamalgamation meeting

There are no names yet on the
petition and organizer Glen Howling
said he needs to start from scratch on
his Grey Township budget.
But, after a heated meeting about
deamalgamation in Grey where Huron
East councillors were initially silenced
by the chairperson, Howling said he
will continue to work towards Grey's
deamalgamation from Huron East. ,
"It takes time. You've got to be
persistent. We'll probably have more
meetings," he said, adding that he
threw out his budget for a
reincorporated Grey Township after
Huron East councillors pointed out a
number of errors in his numbers.
Close to 70 people attended the
meeting at Grey Central School to hear
former Bayfield Coun. Bill Higgs
discuss the push for deamalgamation in
50 municipalities .across Ontario.
"We've got to reclaim democracy -
we've started to let it slip through our
fingers," said Higgs, adding that
amalgamation was forced on Ontario
municipalities.
