Changes to non -emergency
ambulance transfers coming
Representatives from Huron and Perth
County councils, along with Huron -Perth
health care providers, met March 10 to dis-
cuss the logistics of changes which will occur
early in the Spring with regards to non -emer-
gency transfers outside county boundaries.
In an effort to maintain the provincially
mandated integrity of emergency ambulance
service, it became necessary to change the
way non -emergency transfers outside of coun-
ty boundaries occur.
Changes to these transfers will.be limited to
only one ambulance out of the county at any
one time for non -emergency transfers.
Emergency services will continue to be pro-
vided as they have in the past.
Other options have been identified for non-
emergency trips. Providers of these services
participated in last weeks discussions and
will be working jointly with hospitals, retire-
ment homes and other health care providers
to insure appropriate transportation is avail-
able when needed.
When a patient requires a non -emergency
transfer, the patient and their family will be
advised of a broad range of alternative ser-
vices available and the accompanying costs.
These changes will be implemented in
Huron County as of April 1, 2006.
An implementation date for Perth County
has yet to be determined.
CRSS musicians perform
in
London music festival
Jennifer Hubbard
Central Huron secondary school
musicians are enjoying a well-
deserved break this week after two
very successful performances at
London's recent Musicfest.
"It was definitely our best day of
playing ever," CHSS music teacher
and band conductor Isaac Moore
said.
"I couldn't be more proud. The
kids did a great job."
The regional music festival was
held at London's Oakridge and
Westminster secondary schools
March 6-8.
Because it is a non-competitive
festival, each group judged and
given a "standard" ranking by an
adjudicator, Moore explained.
CHSS's jazz band received a gold
standing and the concert band
achieved bronze.
"Our music students of the concert
and jazz bands all played exception-
ally well, with much enthusiasm,
electricity and heart," Moore com-
mented on the school's website.
"Not only this, but they played
with unrivaled technical skill and
professionalism as well, making
their performances some of the best
the groups have ever produced
together.",
Each band performed three con-
trasting pieces.
The jazz band's diverse playlist
featured swing, ballad and Latin
rock pieces. Katherine Snider, Cam
Laurie, Patrick Armstrong, Jen
Blackwell, Tasom Jeong and Willem
Shepherd performed solos.
"All players showed a focus' and
confidence that literally 'blew away',
our esteemed adjudicator," Moore
said.
Starting off with a required piece
from the national syllabus, the con-
cert band also played a march and
Amazing Grace, which featured
Ashley. Coleman as a soloist.
"Our brass section stood out as
powerful and confident leaders dur-
ing this performance and our wood-
winds showcased their talents and
musicianship during choice
moments as well," Moore comment-
ed.
There are currently about 25 stu-
dents performing in the jazz band
and 40 in the concert band, from
Grades 9 through 12.
"We're a small enough school that
it's possible to include all ages,"
Moore said. "It brings a lot of varied
ability to one spot and the fact that
we can come out so successful is
pretty amazing."
Because of CHSS's impressive
standings, Moore said the jazz band
has been invited to perform at the
national Musicfest competition in
Ottawa May 17-20. He expects the
concert band will also receive an
invitation in the near future.
But it doesn't end there.
