TAXATION CHANGES
Briefly the taxation, changes an,
pounced. by Mr, Fielding Friday, were
Sales tax to be six per cent. 'to be
collected at source—manufacturers or
producers. This applies to Canadian,
or foreign goods. Previously foreign
manufacturers, pard .six per cent. and
Canadian 414 per cent,, 2% from manu-
facturers to jobber and 234 from job-
ber to retailer. Indirect sales from
manufacturer to retailer was 43i per
cent,
Five articles are added to the list
of exemptions' from the sales tax,
tax, namely: Raw furs, wool, drain
tiles, for farm purposes, manuscript
and newsprint,
Maximum tax on checks reduced
from $2 to $1.

A unique affair of the Convention

The choir of the oonventiom church
rendered splendid service, by a plea -
in duet, anthem, quartete and chor-
uses. Solos were rendered by Miss M.
Clark, Miss EN Hawley and Miss D.

Excise tax on Canadian, wine's re-
duced fawn $3 to $1.50, -

The excise tax on cigarettes is re-
duced from $7.50 to $6 per 1,000.

taxation
The changes announced go into ef-
fect May 11, except the reduced tax-
ationon checks; which will not become

pal Council was held in the office of
the Clerk, with all members presort.
The minutes of the meeting held on
April 23rd were read and approved.

Chloride, a dust preventative. Filed.
A letter from Richard Welsh, ap-
plying for, exemption as allowed by
statutes on. property of ten acres and
over for 1923. Filed.
A petition as presented asking for
a concrete walk on Huron street east
was read and held over for further
consideration.
Dr. W. Sweet asked for a permit
for the purpose of re -shingling his
residence with asphalt shingles, said
residence being within the fire limits
of the Municipality, Granted.
Mr. Nelson. Stanlake interviewed
the Council re sale of gertain lands
for cemetery purposes, referred to
Cemetery Committee.
Mr. S. M. Sanders made applica-
tion to again open up and rebuild the
gasoline tank on James street near
his property now used as a garage.
Granted on motion oa rancis—E1-
lerington. The same to be construc-
ted under the supervision of the
Street Commissioner.
The Property Committee were .in-
structed to look into the ',natter of
constructing water closets on the
Town Hall property, also the im-
provement of the weigh Scales Build-
ing.
Messrs. P. Moir and Rd. Yellow,
asked what steps could be taken to
have some reduction in the School
rate of taxation on their lands. After
discussion the matter was held over
for investigation. .

for an order to secure a new suit of
