Seaforth residents, Casey Van Bakel, and Todd Chisholm, along with his son and daughter, will be performing in the play, based on the film of the same name. "The music is wonderful," says Van Bakel about the play, in which he stars in the lead role. There is also a love story between DeBeque and a nurse, who is there to help with the injured American navy officers. Van Bakel has worked with the community players before in 2002's production of Annie and 2003's Blame it on the Movies. Over his year away, Van Bakel kept in touch with organizers, which is where he heard and became interested in South Pacific. Van Bakel has an extensive back- ground in performing, and therefore isn't concerned about stage fright. "My acting is doubtful," Van Bakel says jokingly. He adds, "My dancing leaves something to be desired." Chisholm, a teacher at St. James School, feels much of the same about his own skills. "I got a dramatic role," says Chisholm. "No dancing, no singing." He plays commander Harbison, who is second in command oversee- ing the sailors on the island. "This is something outside the box, that's a challenge, a risk," he says with excitement.
