JOHNSTON: In loving memory of a
dear mother and Nana, !della
Johnston who passed away August
27, 2001.
In tears we saw you failing,
And watched you pass away,
Our hearts were slowly breaking,
We wanted you to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful free from pain,
How could we wish you back with
us,
To suffer that again.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
We think of you as Irving,
In the hearts of those you touched,
For nothing is ever lost,
And we love you very much.
- Lovingly remembered and sadly
missed by Ruth, Steve, Jennie and
Emily 46-35x1
BRITTON: In loving memory of
Jeff, our grandson, nephew and
cousin, who passed away four
years ago, on Sept. 6, 2001.
Down the path of memories,
We softly tread today.
Our thoughts are with you, Jeff,
As life goes on its way.
- Love to Jeff from Grandma Hilda

1(i. In Memoriam
BRITTON: In loving memory of my
son Jeff, who was taken from us
four years ago, on Sept. 6, 2001, at
29 years old.
"And if I go
while you're still here...
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure,
behind a thin veil you cannot see
• through.
You will not see me, so you must
have faith.
I wait for the time when we can
soar together again,
both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to the
fullest,
And when you need me,
just whisper my name in your
heart...
I will be there"
I whisper your name every day,
Jeff.
I know you are here.
So many things remind me of you.
Your little tree is growing and is so
beautiful, with flowers all around.
Not a day goes by that I don't think
about you.
Our lives go on.
Nothing is the same.
But life goes on.
- God Bless You, Jeff. Rest in
Peace my dear son. Love from
Mom. 46-35x1

John Dekroon plows with the help of his Belgian
workhorses during the Perth County Plowing Match,
where he earned the right to compete at the International
Plowing Match.
Dublin plowman
qualifies for IPM
By Brian Shypula
Stratford Beacon Herald Staff
John Dekroon really got into the spirit of the International
Plowing Match and Rural Expo being hosted by Perth County
next month.
"I bought a little wee set of colts and thought I'd get them
ready for the plowing match," said the hog and cash crop
farmer from north of Dublin.
That was five years ago, when it was announced Perth
County would host the 2005 IPM.
Belgian workhorses Nancy and Patsy are now big beasts.
With a borrowed one -furrow sulky riding plow, Dekroon
began practising with them two weeks ago.
The practice paid off when he earned enough points at
Friday's Huron County Plowing Match to qualify for the IPM.
He was practising again Saturday at the Perth County Plowing
Match, trying to improve his score, even though his dream of
going to the IPM as a competitor had come true.
Although the 49 -year-old is no stranger to making straight
furrows because he grows crops, using a horse team was a
brand new experience.
"It's a lot more personal. The horses listen to your voice.
You can't get a tractor to do that," he said.
"But it's a whole bunch slower."
Brian MacDonald of Winthrop, near Seaforth, borrowed
Nancy and Patsy for a parade in Ripley, Ont., earlier this year.
"I've been around horses most of my life. When he said he
was going to plow, I thought he should have a little help."
MacDonald thought his friend was doing well for a
beginner.
Veteran plowing competitor Bryan Bertrand encouraged
Dekroon to keep at it.
"We need a plowman with horses from Perth County. I'm
hoping he'll keep it up." he said. "It's like a disease, it gets in
your blood."
Bertrand was a judge at the Huron County match where
Dekroon qualified. Dekroon shrugged off his
accomplishment.
"It's our county - we should do something for it, I guess."
