Country star does it his way
at tractor elimination draw
By Jason Middleton
Expositor Staff
While he's getting used to
playing for larger crowds,
Canadian country music
singer Aaron Pritchett
explained that performing in
small towns is exciting.
"The crowds are great.
They're really alive," said
Pritchett. "Even if the
numbers aren't huge the
electricity the crowds seems
to give off is just unreal."
Performing with local act
Steerage and Kitchener -
Waterloo band Black Water
Draw, Pritchett was the
headliner at the Seaforth
Agricultural Society's 16th
annual Tractor Elimination
Draw.
Pritchett said that he is at
the beginning of a very busy
summer where he and his
band will be touring from
"one end of Canada to the
other" until October.
During the summer
Pritchett explained that he
will also be busy recording
his third full length album on
which he co -wrote eight or
nine songs.
Pritchett said that he was
recently in Nashville and
helped Canadian country
musicians Deric Ruttan and
Steve Fox write the songs for
his next album.
"Within the 12 days that
we were down there we had
to write as many songs as we
could," he said. "We ended
up writing 15 songs in 12
days. It turned out really
fruitful."
While he's never
performed in Nashville,
Pritchett said that he does
have dreams of playing the
Grand 01' Opry.
During his career, Pritchett
said that he has always tried
to avoid being a country
music stereotype.
"I break the mold of the
guy that's standing there just
singing," he said. "I try and
run all over the place and put
on a show."
Pritchett said that when he
was 15 or 16 years old, he

began listening to country
music, but didn't begin
singing until he was in his
early 20's.
"I always liked listening to
country," he said. "I didn't
think I was going to be a
country singer, but it turned
out that I was."
In the mid '90s, Pritchett
started a band and his career
just snowballed from there.
In 2001, he won the Project
Discovery Talent Contest at
the Canadian Music Awards.
Soon after, Pritchett
recorded the single Consider
This which received heavy
video play on Country Music
Television (CMT).
Pritchett also had some
success on Canadian country
radio stations with his
signature song My Way.
During 2004, My Way was
the most played Canadian
country single on country
radio stations.
Within the last two years,
Pritchett said, his shows have
gone from performing in a
bar to "coming out to a live
concert for thousands and
thousands of people that are
singing along to your songs."
Before travelling to
Seaforth, Pritchett said he
played in Dauphin, Manitoba
where fans were singing
along so loudly it was
deafening.
While touring Canada,
Pritchett has opened for
country stars such as Paul
Brandt, Emerson Drive,
Jason McCoy, Wilkinsons
Correspondents
and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.
He has also attended the
Juno Awards meeting some
high profile rock stars such
as Avril Lavigne and
Nickelback lead singer Chad
Kruger and members of the
Edmonton Oilers.
"They all knew who I
was," Pritchett said. "They
had seen the (music) videos
and heard some of the music
which was mind boggling."
At another awards
ceremony, Pritchett said that
he met Canadian
singer/songwriter Gordon
Lightfoot.
"He said 'Congratulations
on your success. I've heard
your music and you're
great'," Pritchett said of his
meeting with Lightfoot.
