Hensall prepares for Canada Day decorating contest The Hensall shuffleboard scores for May 31 are as follows: Catherine Decorte 567, Joyce Pepper 470, Cecil Pepper 458, Dave Woodward 454, Cor DeCorte 450, Helen McKay 426, Joe Regier 423, George Racey 423. At Carmel Presbyterian Church Tracey Whitson- Bahro was the minister with Joyce Pepper playing the organ. Al Hoggarth and Harry Smith received the offering. At Hensall United Church Chuck Mallette was the organist with Evaline McAllister welcoming everyone. Pat Veal and Judy Mock were the ushers. Shirley McAllister, Gordon Kurtz, Melissa Kurtz and Rose Dundas took part in the Ilet►SaII service. When Pastor Darke is away call Florence Slade at 262- 2732 for information. There will be a council meeting on June 9 at 7:30 p.m. The Hensall and Community Horticultural Society is sponsoring a Canada Day decorating contest for homes and businesses. Register by June 24, phone 262-2715 to register. Come out and enjoy our June meal at the Hensall Drop -In on June 16 at the Hensall United Church. Lunch will be served at noon. Following lunch we will be having John Mason whistle. This will be the last Drop -In until September. By Liz Sangster Residents of Dublin celebrate former mayor's birthday On Sunday, June 5, a large crowd attended the 75th birthday of a very well- known and well -liked Dublin man, ferry Murray, at the Dublin pavilion. The son of John E. and Melva Murray, Jerry and Melva moved in to Dublin in 1967 after his dad's death. After many happy years and after his mother's death, he become the sole owner in 1977. Jerry has been an elected Dublin trustee for many years. He also had the 1)uhhn honour of being Mayor of Dublin. Also, when March 17 came, he walked down the street as a great Irish man, dressed accordingly. Children who received the sacrament of first Holy Communion recently at St. Patrick's Church include Jared Anstett, Sarah Barbosa, Alex Bruxer, Nicole Feeney, Zachary Elliott, Michelle Louwagie, Megan McKellar, Gregory Monden, Owen O'Leary, Dawn Pletsch, Bradley Saunders, Samuel Skinner, Owen Smith, William Smith, Connor Turcotte, Allison Van Bakel and Baylie Weemen. A parish cluster picnic was thoroughly enjoyed on Sunday, June 5 at the Lions Park, Mitchell. It began with mass at 3:30 p.m. followed by supper and Local family hosts annual family picnic As there was no service at Cavan United Church this Sunday, several members from this church attended the musical program put on by the junior and senior choirs of Northside United. The title was "They All Sang Jesus" with Rev. John Gould being the narrator. The congregation participated in the hymns. Margaret Whitmore was the pianist and Tyler Hart was on drums. Audrey McLlwain, leader of the junior choir for several years, has retired, Sunday being her last day. She was presentedd with gifts from Winthrop the junior choir and the church. After this much -enjoyed service, hot dogs and ice cream were served. The Hemingway family picnic was recently held at the Winthrop Ball Park. The weatherman cooperated with a sunny day for outdoor events. About 80 attended the get- together which has been meeting for over 100 years. Eight relatives attended from England and five were here from the United States. There was a potluck lunch and games for the children. Also available was a family tree history dating back to the 1400s. The first immigrants from England settled in the Burlington area and decendents have spread out from there. Local members were Ruth Axtmann and Marion Godkin and their families. Margaret Bernard, of Brussels, mother of Irma Pryce, died recently. Food for thought Love makes the world go round, but laughter keeps us from getting dizzy. By Ruth Campbell Susan Hundertmark photo Columbo Classic donations This year, the 10th annual Columbo Classic Spring Scramble raised $4,000 of which $3,000 was donated to the Seaforth and $1,000 went to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Another season underway at Seaforth lawn bowling club Lawn bowling season is getting underway and on Seaforth 13()%s ling ('Inb Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. will be the first tournament at the Seaforth greens, a men's pairs. Last Wednesday, June 1 there was men's pairs at the Exeter greens and several Seaforth bowlers took part. Fred and Betty Tilley and Keith Snell attended the grand opening invitational of the new club and greens at Grand Cove Estates, Grand Bend on Tuesday, May 31 at 10 a.m. There will be a ladies' pairs tournament in Mitchell Thursday, June 9 and Saturday, June 11 will be men's pairs in Goderich with burgers and dogs available for lunch. Tuesday, June 21 will be pot luck supper at 6 p.m. with bowling or cards after with Isabelle Hunt and Marie Thomas hostessing. Monday evening men's night has been quite successful this year with several new men enjoying lawn bowling. Local jitneys are up in attendance but there is always room for more. We trust any new bowlers will find what an enjoyable game lawn bowling is and Seafoth Greens are known as one of the best in the district.
