Commun.ity celebrates wedding
An atmosphere of great joy
and celebration permeated St.
Columban church as family
members, relatives,
neighbours and friends
gathered to celebrate and
witness the marriage of Marie
Hicknell to Bill Feeney.
The children and
grandchildren of the bride
and groom participated in the
simple but beautiful
ceremony, con -celebrated by
Father Lance Magdziak and
Father Joe Hardy. Matron of
honor was Teresa Van Raay,
daughter of the bride, while
Francis Feeney, son of the
groom, was best man. Guests
were ushered by grandsons,
Allan Renner and Dean Van
Raay. Grandchildren of the
bride, Justine Hicknell,
Stephanie Van Raay,
Nicholas Hicknell and
Brianne Hicknell were the
altar servers. The duties of
commentator were performed
by Joseph Hicknell, son of
the bride.
The readings were read by
Brenda Rickert, daughter of
the groom and Stephen
Hicknell, son of the bride.
John Hicknell and Margaret
Rooney, son and daughter of
the bride, led the Prayers of
the Faithful, while Sharon
Feeney, daughter of the
groom, and Larry Hicknell,
son of the bride, presented
the Offertory Gifts.
The St. Columban Church
choir sang the hymns, while
Teresa Van Raay sang the
communion Hymn, "Nuptial
Blessing."
Father Joe Hardy, in the
homily, reminded all of us
that spring was in the air, and
that while enduring life's
many, and sometimes
overwhelming difficulties,
we can all hope for spring in
our life.
An "Open House"
reception and celebration
which followed, filled the
Seaforth Agriplex to capacity.
After a trip to Niagara Falls,
New York, and Niagara Falls,
Canada, the happy couple
continue to reside in the
community.
Many local people
gathered at St. James Church
in Seaforth recently to
celebrate the 125th
anniversary of the Roman

there. St,

Seaforth became a parish by
the 1 etter of then Bishop John
Walsh in June of 1880.
Bishop Fabbro, surrounded
by several priests, was the
main celebrant and homilist
for the Mass of
Thanksgiving. The St. James
Chu rch Choir, under the
direction of organist Cheryl-
Anrre St. Onge, and
accompanied by violinists,
former parishioners, Carol
Anne Przybylski, of
Mississauga, and Anne Marie
Snider of Kitchener, along
with soloist Casey Van Bakel,
provided magnificent music
for the occasion.
Tile Sunday School class
shared their talents as well. A
largely attended celebratory
dinner followed at the
Seal;orth Agriplex, during
which the entertainment of
much local talent was
enjc•yed by all.
The ring of cleats against
the :;occer ball, accompanied
by the sound of cheers and
whi:•;tles, tells us that spring is
surely here and it is soccer
season again.
With over 300 young
people signed up this year,
the St. Columban Minor

Students at St. Columban
School have been busy with
many activities. Several of
the classes have performed at
the Mitchell Music festival
and the Stratford Kiwanis
Festival with singing and
playing the recorder.
Theme Days have included
a Pop and Chip Day as well
as a "Hat Day." The "Hat
Day" was a hit as most
students and teachers
participated. The Student
Council gave out awards for
the funniest hat as well as the
most original.
School sports continue as
the senior girls defeated
Kinkora 58-25 in recent
basketball play. The senior
boys lost to St. Boniface 33-
35 in a close competition for
the hoops.
At the system tournament
held at St. Anne's High
School in Clinton, the senior
girls played Jeanne Sauve in
a final game which saw both
teams share the title with a
25 -all tie. With the end of
basketball season here, the
students are gearing up for
baseball.
