By Jason Middleton

Winning the North American
Silver Stick Bantam
championship, was "really
exciting" for Mitchell Meteors
captain Sarah Johnston, of
Seaforth.
In the tournament held in
Trenton Feb. 11 to 13, her team
posted a perfect 5-0 record.
The 14 -year-old
Grade 9 student
from St. Anne's
said that the
toughest part of
the tournament
was playing
against their
league rival
Stratford in the
semi-finals.
"We knew they
were going to be
tough," said
Johnston, adding
to the shootout," said Johnston.
"I think a lot of us thought we
were going to lose when they
scored their second goal."
As captain, Johnston had to
keep her team motivated during
the game.

Mitchell was behind 0-2 in the
final moments of the semi-final
game.
With 4:35 remaining in
regulation in the semi-final
game, Johnston scored which
was followed by another goal by
the Mitchell team.
Then in an overtime shootout,
Johnston scored another goal
which was followed by another
Mitchell goal.
The Meteors won their semi-
final game against Stratford 4 to
3.
"I think a lot of our team was
nervous, but most of us were
excited that we were able to get
biggest
tournament that Johnston has
won in her four-year hockey
career.
"I think a lot of us came in
there (to the tournament)
thinking we were not going to
do as well as we did," said
Johnston.
She admits that the reason her
team won was because they
never gave up and played as a
team
Next year, Johnston said that
she is going to play on the
Mitchell Meteors' midget team.
As for the rest of the season,
Johnston said that she hopes her
team keeps a positive attitude

and "not get too overconfident
about winning."
Daughter of Tom and Bonnie

Seaforth member of the Mitchell
Meteors team.
