South Central Huron Dairy
4-H club holds third meeting
The third meeting of the
South Central Huron Dairy
4-H Club was held on
Wednesday, May 19 at 7:30
pm. on the farm of the
Gubelmann's.
Debra Bennett provided
information on the Junior
Gencor Challenge that will
he held in Woodstock, Ont.
on July 9 and 10.
She took thc names of
everyone planning to
participate and will fill in the
registration forms. All
members have been signed
up to participate in the
Clinton Fair 4-H Calf Show
on June 5 at the Clinton
South Central
Huron Dairy 4 -H
Club
fairgrounds.
The challenge for this
meeting was to judge a class
of mature Brown Swiss
cows. Senior members gave
their placings and their
reasons why they placed this
class that way. Glen McNeil
gave the official placing.
Kora Bennett gave tips on
showmanship, for example;
lining up your calf, keeping
eye contact 50/50 between
the judge and your calf.

Steve Jones, from Dutton,
Ont., (formerly from the
U.K.), provided us with
information on the impact of
B.S.E. within the cattle
industry.
The meeting was closed by

Dublin community member
Doug Smith passed away
suddenly as the result of a
motor vehicle accident on
Wednesday, June 2. 1 can't
begin to name the activities,
jobs, smiles and friends that
Doug had.
A funeral service was held
on Sunday, Junc 6 with Rev.
Peter Bush officiating. at
Dublin
Knox Presbyterian Church,
Mitchell.
St. Vincent de Paul Church,
Mitchell, held a very
successful C.W.L. bazaar on
Tuesday, June 8 with a Targe
crowd attending. Thank you to

Coaches' comments: St.Columhan struggled to get on the board early versus a much weaker second
division club. About.35 minutes into the first half 16 -year-old Carmen Carnochan opened the scoring
using her speed to get behind the visitor's defence and place the ball behind the Taxandria kccper five
minutes later Erica Mahon put the home side up by two when she controlled a drop kick from St.
Columhan keeper Jane Crowley and dribbled the hall 70 yards through and around most of the
Taxandria team finishing with a well placed shot into the visitor's goal.
Tara O'Reilly finished off the first half with two goals in the last five minutes. St. Columban lcd 4-0
at half time.
The scoring continued in the second half with Mcaghan O'Reilly, Sheila Murphy, Meagan Nolan and
Tonna Larsen recording goals for the home team. Assists in the game were given to Erica
Mahon(3), Jane Crowlcy(2), Katrina Belfour(2), Mary Finlayson, and Laura Oticn. Jane Crowley,
Erica Mahon and Meaghan O'Reilly all shared the shutout without facing a single shot on goal.
St. Columban advances to first round of Cup tournament with their next game being against the
winner of the London United, Sarnia Spirit match.
Next game for the locals is a regular season match, Wednesday June 9 in St. Columban versus
London Marconi at 6:30.
