His recent death made us feel very sad. The knowl- edge that he also had many friends and wonderful neighbours softens this sudden blow. His wife and fam- ily wish to publicly thank these angels. Ross Ribey and Ruth Townsend assisted in organizing the details of the funeral. Joyce pre- pared our dinner after the funeral. Nobody wanted to think about cook- ing with an empty space at the head of the table. Mr. Bruce Whitmore publicly talked about Don as the wonderful man we always knew he was. We enjoy reading each card. Grace treasures every phone call, and shares them with the rest of her family. The flowers and gifts bring beauty into our lives. We all shared the delicious food presents. Thanks to Jane, June, Gwen and Ruth for preparing a wonderful meal. Grace would like to thank her friendly neighbours for cleaning her car after the recent snowfalls. Memorial donations will help support groups important to Don - the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Northslde United Church, and, perhaps most Important of all, the Lions Club. Don enjoyed being a Lion. Many Lions travelled long distances to attend the memorial at the funeral home. Bob Beuttenmiller and Ray Rochon have a special place In our hearts for taking the time to bring Don to so many meetings. Words cannot express the depth of our gratitude. - Grace and the rest of her extend- ed family 47-05x1 1102 Huron has eight snow days so far From Page 1 weather impact - the first being the day after students returned from holidays and the most recent being last Thursday and Friday," Howe said Monday. "Usually we have a total of eight snow days throughout the entire year. We may reach that tomorrow depending on this storm." After an evening of freezing rain and snow all Seaforth-area schools were closed Tuesday. Many other schools throughout Huron and Perth Counties were also closed. However, Howe said last Thursday was the worst snow day this year, with all Huron and Perth schools closed, except those in Stratford, which were open for walking students only. Area students and many of their parents were treated to a four-day weekend, as Huron bunkered down to wait out the storm. 'This year we had a mild November and December and winter didn't really hit until January," Howe said. "Now it doesn't want to stop." Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips said aft above normal temperatures in December and the beginning of January, southern Ontario has entered a "relentless deep freeze." "We usually get these deep freezes for 10-12 days at the worst, but this winter it's been three and a half weeks of nothing but cold temperatures," he explained, adding the weather is reminiscent of prairie winter. "Southern Ontario isn't used to this length of a freeze and although it's only been just over three weeks, for many it seems like about two months." Huron and Perth Counties were battered with lake effect snow last week, closing a number of area highways. But other areas of the province were hit harder by this week's province -wide storm. "Some areas of southern Ontario, like Huron County, received most of their snow last week, getting nearly 90 centimetres in just a few days," Phillips said. However, Huron may still see more of this week's storm, which Phillips says is larger and slower than most events. Storm warnings were still in effect Tuesday, with predictions of 5-10 centimetres of snow throughout the day and 2-5 at night, with temperatures sitting around normal at about -5 degrees Celsius. A cold front is expected to move through the area later this week, bringing more snow and lower than normal temperatures. "The chamber will provide a focus and a voice for all the businesses in Huron East, not just the urban areas. it's an excellent opportunity for networking and can provide things like communal health care, insurance, group buying and auto fuel rebates," says Laviolette. As well, he hopes to see seminars provided three times a year to chamber members, featuring speakers on successful businesses in rural areas. The fee to join the Huron East chamber of commerce is 51. "We want to make it as easy for people to join as possible. There's no question that the chamber will be formed but it's much more useful the more people join," he says. Laviolette says the chamber's first meeting will be held sometime in late March or early April. "I'm hoping the first meeting will focus on the results of the community survey," he says, referring to a survey that is included in today's Huron Expositor.
