By Sara Campbell

Choosing a university can be
difficult - especially when
you're a Canada Games gold
medallist and still only 17
years old.
But, Leah Craig, of
Egmondville has made her
final decision and will be
attending the University of
New Hampshire, U.S., in the
fall with a four-year
scholarship.
"It's like a dream come true.
I'm really looking forward to
going there in the fall," said the
St. Anne's Catholic Secondary
School Grade 12 student.
"New Hampshire is a
beautiful place and a real
hockey town like Seaforth. I'm
really excited."
Leah said she had several
Canadian and U.S. universities
pursuing her, which made her
final decision difficult.
"I never actually thought
about going there until after I
visited the campus and when
the reps came to talk to me."
she said.
She added the Bluewater
Junior Hawks, the team she
currently plays for, had the
opportunity to visit the
university and she later visited

again with her parents.
"The hockey team is ranked
seventh nationally and the
school is one of the most
highly -respected academic
schools."
Leah will also be studying
health sciences and
psychology while attending the
university.
During the summer Leah
attended the Prospects Hockey
Tournament in Toronto and
placed first in points against
more than 300 other players. In
March, she won a. gold medal
with Team Ontario at the
Canada Winter Games.
Leah also played for the
London. Junior Stangs last
winter.
"Last year, when the whole
prospect process started, we
realized she would have the
opportunity to go to the States
and visit the various
universities pursuing her," said
Fran, Leah's mother.
"Yes, it is far from home but
after she did some soul
searching, I knew she made the
right decision," she said.
Terry, Leah's father, added
that each institution they
visited together was
outstanding and all were very
positive.
He said that in the end, Leah
was debating between New
Hampshire, Wisconsin and
Ohio but she had always
favoured New Hampshire.
"The whole process was
overwhelming for her and the
final decision was tough. But
she said to me, 'Each night I
visualize myself at every
campus and New Hampshire
has that small town
atmosphere that feels like
home.' We're very proud of
her." he said.
Fran said Leah wanted to
find a school with the best
athletic department, a strong
team and the best academic
studies that suited her.
