Huron's deputy -reeve position
Local businessman
has passion
for government
Local businessman and
former Municipality of
Clinton councillor John
Bezaire is seeking the
position of deputy mayor
of Central Huron.
A long-time member and
current chair of the
Clinton Public Hospital
Foundation, Bezaire
previously sat on the Parks
and Recreation
Committee, BIA, Roads
Committee and coached
minor hockey.
Born and raised in
Hullett Township, Bezaire
attended both Central
Huron Secondary School
and Seaforth District High
School. He was a student
of the Distance Education
Program, from the
University of Waterloo.
For the past eight years,
Bezaire and his wife,
Sherri, a student from the
University of Western
Ontario, have owned their
own company. Their
businesses include two
fast food outlets,
institutional food service
and commercial and
residential land
development in Central
Huron.
Bezaire said he and his
wife have chosen to raise
their family and make a
living in Central Huron.
"The people, geography
and overall atmosphere
make Central Huron a
very special place to both
of us."
The deputy -reeve
candidate said he and his
wife have enjoyed many
opportunities in the area
and owe their success to
John Bezaire
the family, friends and
neighbours that have
supported them through
the years.
According to Bezaire,
"Central Huron has a
wealth of attributes that, if
managed properly, will
ensure that it not only
continues to be a terrific
place to live, but will also
grow and prosper in the
future for our children."
He said government has,
always been a passion for
him.
He added that he
believes it is a privilege to
serve in public office.
"Given my experience in
business and in the
community, I feel that I
have the ability to be a
strong and effective
member and leader on
Central Huron Council.

Former
deputy -reeve aims
return to council
After taking a term off,
Dave Jewitt wants to return
to council as deputy -reeve
of Central Huron.
Jewitt, 40, was a member
of the Town of Clinton
council from 1994 to 2000,
serving three years as
councillor and three years
as deputy -reeve.
A supervisor with the
Ontario Lottery and
Gaming Corporation,
Jewitt is a member of the
Clinton Power
Corporation. He has also
canvassed for the Cancer
Society and been a
member of the Clinton
Raceway Board of
Directors Society in the
past.
While on council, Jewitt
was a member of the
Bluewater Recycling
Association, the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation
Authority and the Public
Utilities Commission.
Because Jewitt's most
important investment is his
Gordon Street home in
Clinton, he said he wants a
voice in the decisions
affecting that investment.
"I miss being in the
decision process for the
municipality."
The deputy -reeve
candidate said the
municipality will be facing
a number of issues. He
wants to ensure federal and
provincial regulations are
fair to the agricultural
sector. -
While municipalities
aren't seen to be
responsible for issues like
health care and education.
Jewitt believes a strong
voice is needed to ensure

that these services remain a
part of the community. He
added he likes to look at
issues from all sides to
provide a balanced point of
view. '
Jewitt would like the
municipality to focus its
energies on increasing
tourism. He would like to
develop a recreational
masterplan to focus on
what facilities the
municipality can offer its
residents.
A life-long resident of
Central Huron, Jewitt said
he likes the quality of life
the municipality offers. He
also has family in the area.
He attended both Clinton
Public and Central Huron
Secondary schools.
The candidate took
Political Science and
Sociology at the University
of Western Ontario. He
added he has always been
interested in politics and
his family has been
involved politically.

Stratford man, 25, charged
with threatening Vanastra wife
A 25 -year-old Stratford
man was charged with
threatening after threatening
the life of his separated
common-law wife, who lives
in Vanastra.
The threatening phone call
occurred on Oct. 28 at 9:30
a.m.
The man is scheduled to
appear in court on Jan. 19 in
Goderich.
Car stereo stolen
in Walton
A car stereo was stolen
from an unlocked vehicle in
Walton on Oct. 25, reports
the Huron OPP.
A Legacy CD car stereo
system was taken from an
unlocked 1987 GMC Vandura
that was parked at a
Humphrey Street residence.
Anyone with related
information is asked to call
the Huron OPP or
Crimestoppers.
Stolen van
found in Vanastra
A van stolen from Stratford
on Oct. 25 was found in
Vanastra on Oct. 28 at 9:15
a.m. by Huron OPP.
The white 1994 Plymouth

$2,000 in damages
Two tractors received
$2,000 in damages while
parked outside the compound
at Hyde Brothers Farm
Equipment in Hensall
sometime overnight on Nov.
1.
The red Massey and orange
Kubota had their windows
smashed by rocks. They were
parked on Wellington Street.
The owner has offered a
$500 reward for leads causing
the arrest of the culprits.

Hensall man charged
with drinking and driving
A 28 -year-old Hensall man,
found in a pick-up truck on
its side on the front lawnofa
Blyth -area residence, has
been charged with driving a
motor vehicle with over 80
mgs. of alcohol in his blood.
The 2000 Ford pick-up
truck had been travelling
westbound 'on Blyth Road
when the driver lost control.
He failed the roadside tests
and was taken for breath
tests.
He is scheduled to attend
court in Wingham on Jan. 15
