My best Christmas memories
By Tricia Delchairo, St. James School
An old-fashioned Christmas
Sam and Laura were running around the
Christmas tree which was covered with store
bought ornaments and a few homemade ones.
"Come here I will tell you about a
Christmas when I was a little. When I was
little we didn't care about toys and presents. It
all began in our little cabin on the edge of
town. We lived by a river which was always
frozen in the wintertime.
My two brothers and one sister went down
to the river to play hockey. I was five and my
mother wouldn't let me go down to the river
because she thought I was too young.
Instead I stayed in and helped thread
popcorn onto some thread my mother had
had. After we had strung all the popcorn onto
the thread, my mother told me to bring the
few ornaments from the basement. Which
were just a few candles, homemade
ornaments and candy canes.
I started lugging the box up when I heard
the door open from upstairs and my mother
crying with delight. I rushed the box up the
rest of the stairs.
When I got to the top of the stairs, I pushed
the box into the room and when I peeked
around the corner I saw the most beautiful
tree I had ever seen. I ran into my papa's arms
and asked in his ear, where he had found such
a beautiful tree.
He took me out of his arms and sat down in
his big comfy chair by the flickering fire. He
told us that when he went out into the woods
there weren't any trees there, not even a small
one.
So he wentinto town and saw all the
evergreens. He said that he traded the tree for
his work in the town.My mother ran over and
started hugging and kissing my papa (which
was what we called our dad).
Soon after that my brothers and sister came
in all snowy and a bit wet. When they saw the
tree they were filled with delight. We opened
the box with all the ornaments in it. Papa
stood the tree in the stand.
We had a great time decorating the tree and
after we were done everyone thought it was
beautiful. It was getting cold and dark
outside, so we all cuddled up by the fire
which Papa had just put fresh wood in and
told stories. When it was time to go to bed I
curled up beside my sister in our bed.
I had asked her if Santa was real, and do
you know what she said? She said "Anything
is real jf you just believe."

Grandma. Elise's Christnias days
"I remember when it was
the old fashioned Christmas
days" Grandma said.
Grandma Elise was telling
another story about when she
was little.
"What was your Christmas
like back then Grandma?"
Abby asked.
"I was just going to tell
you Abby" answered
Grandma.
"Well, first we would go
with my Dad into the woods
to find a perfect Christmas
tree. We would pop popcorn
and thread string through it
and put it on with other
decorations and the angel.
We would go to the church

an hour early to carol with
some other families we
knew. Then we would head
into church. After church we
would go to my
grandparents. On our way
walking home we would run
inside and put on our snow
stuff and catch the last bit of
sunlight to play in the snow.
After coming inside and
having a hot drink we would
have a nice big dinner with
my relatives (Aunts, Uncles,
etc.) but when we got home
from my grandparent's
house, me, my older brother
and younger sister would be
so tired we wouldn't even
bother to look at the
Christmas tree, say good
night or merry Christmas to
our parents. But in the
morning we would quietly
go downstairs and make
Mom and Dad breakfast and
put it on their bedside table
and go downstairs and open
all our presents. But we had
different presents than you
Abby?" Grandma said.
"What kind of presents did
you have? Abby asked.
"I was just getting to that,"
answered Grandma.
"We didn't have presents
like gameboy, computer
games and stuff like that we
got china dolls, tops and
other stuff like that. So you
sell all the different things
that have changed from now
and when I was little?"
asked Grandma
"Yes it has changed a lot,"
answered Abby. "There is
your Dad with your new
Christmas tree. You better
run along now. See you at
Christmas!" said Grandma

Max's Christmas adventure
As my Grandpa sits in his chair rocking
back and forth, I sigh and say "when can I
go outside and play hockey on the pond
with my friends?"
It was one day before Christmas and I
was supposed to meet my friends at the
pond. My Grandpa wouIi1 not let me go
because he says that it's a time for family
and a time to pray. I believe that he is just
trying to keep me inside.
Fifteen minutes pass and finally he lets
me go. When I got to the pond my friends
are heading home because I never showed
up on time "oh great," I said.
Then I saw a thing run across the big old
h ill and I decided to follow it. When I
started to run I fell down a hole.
I slid to a stop at a small door. I opened
the door and inside were little elves. Well
that's what I saw I thought to myself.
When I walked inside they all froze to a
stop. I said, "Hello" and they all
scrambled to hide from me. Then a man
with a loud voice said "what's all that
noise in there?" Then a man with a rosy
nose and a round belly entered the room.
He said, "Hello" and then I started asking
questions like "Who are you," and "Who
are these little people?"
Then he said these little people are elves
and I am Santa. "Oh" I said, I must be
dreaming, but then Santa said, "you are
not dreaming, this is real."
He invited me to sit down and have a
glass of milk and some cookies. Then the
clock struck 8:00 o'clock and I said, "Oh
no I have to get home."
Just then Santa said, "I forgot I am three
hours behind on my list of things to do."
We said "goodbye" and I climbed up the
hole and ran all the way home.
When I got home I ran and gave my'
Grandpa a big hug and then I said "good
night" and went upstairs.
When I was crawling into bed I saw
Santa and his elves on the pond playing
good old hockey. After that I drifted of to
sleep.

Christmas Eve is tonight!
Christmas Eve is tonight!
We've spent all day
waiting.
It's now time to say good
night
And hope the weather
treats Santa right.
The tree looks beautiful
tonight!
The delicate ornaments
made of wood.
And the candles ablaze
with light.
Make the holidays just
right.
Santa Claus is coming to
town!
His sleigh is landing on
the roof.
Through the chimney he's
coming down.
His friendly smile and
belly so round. " t
Christmas is my favourite
holiday!
Gatherings with friends
and family.
Can change any heart to
joyous from grey.
And people celebrate in a
merry way.
