Cents celebrate comeback season
despite loss to Mt. Brydges in finals
Unable to mount any sustained pressure, the Centenaires
dropped their fourth straight loss to the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs
in Yeck Conference play on Wednesday.
The Toss eliminated the Centenaires sending Mt. Brydges to
the Ontario Hockey Association championship series versus
Wellesley.
The game was typical of the previous three with the
Bulldogs capitalizing on turnovers and•faceoffs while the
Centenaires offence was unable to respond.
Mike Murray provided some second period excitement
going end to end and beating a hot Bulldog goalie. Scott
Henderson finished the scoring taking off on a breakaway out
of the penalty box.
Unfortunately it was not enough as Mt. Brydges sealed a 9-
2 victory.
It was smiles and tears on the Seaforth bench through the
final period however - smiles as the locals relished on their
amazing comeback season, and tears as the team was forced
to say goodbye to it's overagers Chuck Robertson and Aaron
Parsons who have been fixtures in town for the past five
seasons.
"I couldn't be any more proud of this group of guys," said
coach Jason Papple.
"They have nothing left to give, who could ask anything
more?"
The Cents may lose several other key players next year as
several 20.year olds jockey for overage spots including Scott
Henderson, Tim Sills, JD Nolan, Dan Robinson, Mike
Murray, Scott Van Dooren and Jeff Arnold.
"We will probably lose a couple of young guys to Jr. B but
some key guys will remain," Dave Parsons added.
Returning players include: Josh Holland, Joe Nesbitt, Jeff
MacCuspey, Tim McClure, Matt Roberts, David Stonely,
Jamie Black, Derek Akey, AJ Larivee, Justin Riccardi, Jake
Mavity, Tason Brenzel, Curtis Meyers and Mark Stanley.
Papple pointed to a strong group of minor hockey players
eligible for affiliation next season.
"Hopefully what we've accomplished this year will give a
strong foundation to improve on next season," he said.
The Cents' season included 18 wins, 17 losses, two ties and
3 overtime losses. In the playoffs, they had eight wins and 10
losses. In the last 18 games at home they had 12 wins, five
losses and one overtime loss.

Parish hall filled to capacity for bake sale
Adam Koehler and his
teammates of the Seaforth
Hitmen Broomball Team
won the National Juvenile
Broomball Championship for
all of Canada recently, in
Palmerston. The team is
comprised of players from
Seaforth, Clinton and
Sebringville.
The National
Championships have been
held for about 10 years and
Palmerston won it two years
ago. Last year the "Hitmen"
placed sixth.
This year the "Hitmen"
won four games and lost one
in overtime to gain their
achievement.
The competition was of
excellent calibre as the
participating teams are the
best from each province in
Canada including
Newfoundland, Manitoba,
Quebec, Saskatchewan and
North West Territories.
In order to qualify, -this
team came out on top at the
all -Ontario competition held
in Barrie in February.
By achieving the national
title, the team is
automatically qualified to
attend the nationals next
year, which will be held in
either Manitoba or
Saskatchewan.
The St. Columban Parish
Hall was filled to capacity
for the annual bake sale held
following the service on
Good Friday. A large number
of homemade pies, cakes,
preserves, breads and rolls
were auctioned off by Joe
Visser and Bill Murray, who
were the auctioneers for the
event. This event raises funds
for our sister parish in
St. Columban
Conseulo, Dominican
Republic and the local
food bank.
Jack and Fran
Malone arrived back
from Florida in time to
celebrate Easter and
inspect the conditions
at the focal golf

The students at St.
Columban School prepared
for Easter with a celebration
of a joint school mass with
St. Patrick's in Dublin during
Holy Week. The Grade 1/2
class and Mrs. Waechter's
Grade 7/8 class were the
lectors and gift bearers. Mrs.
Petrasek's class sold popcorn
as their way of contributing
to the school's "Tame
Flower" project.
The students are currently
participating in the MS
Readathon, which is a unique
way of helping research for
multiple sclerosis while at
the same time encouraging
the young people to read
books.
