Cents tied with Lucan
after first two playoff
matches over the weekend
The Cents opened the playoffs
Wednesday in Lucan and despite a solid
effort and outshooting the Irish 36-29,
came out on the wrong end of a 4-3
overtime Toss.
Each team notched a power play marker,
each team scoring one goal in each period
in the end to end affair. AJ Larivee, Scott
Henderson and Mark Stanley figured in the
scoring.
Saturday night the Cents looked to
rebound from the loss as the Irish braved
the weather coming into town.
Stanley notched the only goal of the
opening frame.
The second period wasn't kind to the
Irish goalies as they opened the flood gates
for a determined Centenaire squad. Mike
Murray opened the period scoring before
Stanley struck on the power play to put the
Cents up 3-0.
Iustin Riccardi went end to end and let a
low shot rip from the blue line to widen
the gap. Murray got his second of the game
walking in from the point beating the Irish
goalie followed a minute later by Tim Sills
blasting a shot from the top of the circles
to close the period scoring. Seaforth up 6-
0.
In the third period the Cents penalty kill
went to work killing off a 5 minute major
to Jake Mavity and were two men down
for two minutes of it.
Scott Van Dooren added another power
play tally and• Scott Henderson stole a
puck on the penalty kill and walked in
alone to seal the scoring at 8.
Chuck Robertson earned the shutout
making several huge saves including two
breakaways in the final few minutes.
Van Dooren and Larivee had two assists
each while Tim McClure and JD Nolan
chipped in with a helper each.
"Outstanding effort," said coact Art
Larivee. "Terrific rebound from a tough
loss on Wednesday."
Coach Jason Papple was happy with the
win citing the Irish goaltending as a major
factor in the game. "We have to continue
with that effort, it's still a tied series right
now," he said.
In other playoff matches so far, Port
Stanley leads North Middlesex 2 games to
0. Thamesford is up 2 games on Mitchell
and Mt. Brydges is up 2 games on Exeter.
All have been tight scores, 1 and 2 goal
games.
The Cents play game three Wednesday
in Lucan and are at home Friday night for
game four at 8 p.m.
The team is hosting a co-ed volleyball
tournament March 10 at the Agriplex.
Teams require 3 men and 3 women. There
is an entry fee. If you are interested in
