Huron Expositor, 2001-12-19, Page 17Sports A 10-4 win against Mitchell called Cents best offensive game of year Friday. the Centenaires met the Mitchell Hawks again after splitting their first two contests. Seaforth was two points ahead Centenaires of Mitchell prior to the weekend with the North Middlesex Stars wedged between the two teams. Luke Vick got the Cents on the board first, five minutes into the game as he darted past a Hawks defender, raced the length of the ice and slid a soft wrist shot past veteran netminder Scott Schoonderwoerd. Newcomer Cory Cunningham added his first of three a minute later, and Scott Henderson chipped in two more to open up a 4-0 first period lead. Henderson struck quickly into the second period with two consecutive shorthanded goals before the Hawks finally got themselves on the board with two powerplay goals. Ryan Martin answered back with a one-time slapshot from the blueline finding the top shelf for his second of the year. Tyler Doig added a third period goal, picking the puck off a Hawks stick and walking in alone flipping it past the Hawks goalie. Seaforth went on to win the game 10-4 for their best offensive output of the year. The game was marred by a second -period brawl, which resulted in three player suspensions which would prove costly on Saturday in Thamesford. The Centenaires got their Christmas present early as Seaforth native Adam Leonhardt opted to return to the local juniors from the St. Marys Lincolns Jr. B. The addition was welcomed but not quite enough against the Trojans. Scott Henderson put the Cents up early walking out from Seniors enjoy shuffleboard games on Wednesdays Senior shuffleboard is held at the Seaforth and District Community Centres every Wednesday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. All seniors are welcome to come out and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fellowship; Last week's results from three games played are as follows: Ladies: Velma Preszcator - 419, Helen Scott - 362 and Inge Lindemann - 295. The Cents exploded with three goals in two minutes by Josh Demo, Henderson and Tyler Doig. The Trojans capitalized on a Seaforth turnover to get within one before Henderson went end to end five seconds later to seal a 5-3 lead after 20 minutes. The Cents' short line-up began to take it's toll in a back and forth second frame as Thamesford evened the score before the Cents appeared to go ahead on a goal that was waived off. The Cents fought with all they had in the third period but a screen shot got through to put the Trojans up 6-5. Again the Cents scored but again it was waived off as time wound down. Seaforth outshot Thamesford 38-32 but came up just short. The Cents powerplay had several close opportunities to put the locals up but was unable to finish. Returning goalie David Stonely played both weekend games and was solid stopping 3 Trojan breakaways. "I couldn't have asked for any more out of the guys this weekend, best combined effort of the year. We've been waiting to see that intensity," said coach Jason Papple.
