This was a comment from a hungry person who was receiving a life saving ration from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. On Nov. 27, area project volunteers met at the First Presbyterian Church in Seaforth to hear reports from several of the staff of the Winnipeg office of the CFGB. Stu Taylor had just returned from touring some of the 20 countries that are needing help to avoid starvation. He said that the CFGB is feeding approximately 1.6 million people right now. When you can't feed yourself you have a loss of dignity and you don't think of the future anymore. You concentrate on daily survival and often a hungry man becomes an angry man. When farmers can't grow a crop due to drought they often sell their tools, seed, animals and even materials from May your Holiday Season be filled with family and friends, health and happiness. Some countries have acute long term poverty and in those areas they implement food for work projects. That is where they get paid with food for building roads, reforestation and other projects. Drought, civil wars and natural disasters account for the remainder. The refugees in Afghanistan are being looked after by many agencies because the CNN cameras are there but yet millions are dying in the congo and they are virtually being forgotten. Even though the world has the resources to feed everyone, the tables of more than 800 million people are still empty. The local volunteers realized that it was important to keep the projects going in this area. Seaforth has one of the largest projects in all of Ontario and although the commodity prices and yields were low again this year, they were still able to contribute more than $100,000 in food aid by the time the government matched it, 4-1. The local churches and the Knights of Columbus have been avid supporters of this project as well as many individuals in the Seaforth. The group is also hoping to find a city church to be a partner in our local growing project. The Kirkton project joint(' with a Toronto area church, and they have founded a new friendship. We all take our food for granted. Our cupboards are full and we will all sit down and enjoy an over abundance of delicious food during this holiday season. Be thankful for that, but remember what the Bible says "to whom much is given, much is required." Please be generous to the Foodgrains Bank and help your Local volunteers put food on some more of those empty tables. by Janneke Murray 0 0 o 0 0 0 0 0 0 * Star light, star bright, 0 0 ii 0 this is my wish for you tonight. <1: ° That we remember our spirit ' }.14 as it is today for the entire year. .
