Trustee wants poll of communities of closed schools
Wagler wants analysis of emotional, societal and logistical effects of four public school closures in 2000
analysis of the fiscal effects of school closure, adding he's
satisfied with the information already provided by the
board in that regard. And he's not looking for a study
which would range beyond the Avon Maitland district.
into other boards which have suffered closures.
But he is hoping for a thorough survey from across the
entire boa -.'::of the perceived emotional, societal and
logistical effects of the four elementary school closures
which took place in 2000.
And he's hoping to be able to use findings from a
survey to take away as much of the pain and disruption as
possible from the process this time around.
The motion is expected to come before trustees at the
next regular meeting in early December. It calls on the
board to deliver a report by Feb. 12, 2002, ahead of the
scheduled final vote on this round of potential closures.

School and Zurich Public School all cautioned the board
that, if such a change is undertaken, careful consideration
must be given to students who, in September, 2000, were
forced to relocate from the recently -closed McCurdy
Public School in Huron Park.
"Students went to four different schools from the
McCurdy closure, so I think a lot of people in this area
have had to deal with the effects of the closure of a
school," Wagler said, when asked why Exeter -area school
councils, to a greater extent than in other areas, mentioned
this issue in their reports.
Wagler stressed his notice of motion does not seek an
