Huron Expositor, 2001-09-26, Page 9Era Correspondents St. Columban men's soccer team on a five -win streak Sage Derek Christopher Buchanan was welcomed with St. Columban love by the St. Columban parish family and community as he received the Sacrament of Baptism after Mass this past Sunday. Father Tony Daniels presided. Sage's parents, Sherri and Brad Buchanan, and his godparents, Chris Maloney and Tanya Buchanan presented him for the Sacrament. Many local area people gathered at the home of Warren and Heather Bennewies to celebrate the marriage of their daughter, Kelly Jeannette Bennewies, to Jeffery Andrew Hunt, son of William and Barbara Hunt. The weather cooperated in enhancing the beautiful outdoor setting for this event. Rev. Paula Morgan officiated. Butterflies were released as part of the ceremony in memory of Kelly's two grandfathers and Jeff's grandmother and aunt, who had died. Kelly and Jeff reside in Dublin. Sincere sympathy from the entire community is extended to the family and friends of Jim Sloan, who died this past week. Jim was a former St. Columban area resident who worked for many years in the construction industry. The St. Columban men's soccer team defeated Nairn by a 2-1 score in recent action. Dave Murray and John Jordan scored the St. Columban goals. This marks a five - win streak for the team. Their next game is at home against Marconi By Mary C. on Saturday. Ryan The students at St. Columban 345-2560 School had a busy week which included a family barbecue put on by the teachers and held jointly with St. Patrick's School in Dublin. Those attending enjoyed popcorn, donuts, hot dogs and chips after which the students escorted their parents around the school during an "Open House." Coming up this week is a golf tournament in which St. Columban School has a team. The students are also preparing for "Wacky Hair Day." esst E HURON EXPOSITOR, September Oh S001-$ Clarence Krauskopf, Dublin hockey manager of Sos, dies Clarence Krauskopf, a strong member of Dublin's hockey community, passed away on Sept. 16. During the early 1950s, Clarence, as manager, developed a successful hockey program for teenage boys in the Dublin area. Assisted by Martin Murray, his Dublin juvenile team was runner-up for the WOAA championship, losing by one goal to a strong team from Allenford in the 1952/53 season. Clarence arranged for Coony Weiland, who at that time had just ended his career in the NHL, to come and help coach the Dublin boys. Clarence had his team travel on a school bus driven by Earl Roney for the series against Allenford and while travelling through Wingham Clarence and some of his team were interviewed by Tory Gregg on CKNX radio. Members of his team were as follows: Cyril Murray, goal; Bernard Costello, Ray Maloney, Ed O'Hearn and Wayne Scott, defense; Joe Murray, Leon Maloney, Charles Geddes, Jim Malone, Allan Butters and Joe McLaughlin were forwards.
