Huron Expositor, 2001-07-25, Page 2412 -THE HURON EXPOSITOR, August 1, 2001 Sports Lawn bowlers host July social The Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club held their Lawn bowling July Social and potluck supper last Tuesday evening with thirty members and associates present. Hostesses for the evening were Betty Hulley and Bessie Boyd. Following supper four tables of euchre were in play while three greens were engaged in lawn bowling. Euchre winners were 1st: Mary McCall and Edith McMillan. Lone hands: Bessie Boyd and Betty Hulley. Consolation: Bob Argyle and Mary McClure. It was nice to see Sam McClure out after his stay in hospital and nursing home. Lawn bowling winners were: Edna Bell and Mattie Murray and and for the men: Erich Matzold and Jim Stotts. The next social will be August 28 and hostesses will be Isabelle Hunt, Alice Reid and Grace Broadfoot. Thursday, July 26 saw seven greens in play for the Edna and Cliff Waddington sponsored ladies pairs tournament. First place went to Mary Finlayson and. Edna Waddington. Second, Eileen Adamson and Joyce Matzold also of Seaforth. Third, Mickey Kindersma and Grace Cook from Stratford. Fourth, Nell Thompson and Jean Shillington, Clinton. Fifth, Ursel Bucholtz and Audrey Dunscombe, London Elmwood Club. Consolation, Grace Martin and Eileen Crowe, London Thistle Club. In out of town tournaments Neil and Donna Beuerman placed first at the Legion #309 Lucknow tournament. On Saturday, July 28 Jack and Marie Muir and Jim Stotts took second prize at the Clinton Community Credit Union tournament in Exeter. Several teams from Seaforth competed at St. Marys on Sunday in their annual tournament. Fred and Betty Tilley placed second in the double draw and Neil and Donna Beuerman also competed. Members wish Thelma Coombs a speedy recovery from her recent stay in hospital. by Mary Finlayson McLlwain Hockey School soon begins Senior Shuffleboard continues each Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Seaforth and District Community Centres. Last week's winners were: Ladies: Ann Van Dooren - 328, Kathie Tippelt - 299 and Wilma Pennings - 255 Men: Art Scott - 375, Harry Pennings - 349 and Joe Van Dorren - 335. Please note: There will be no Recreation preview shuffleboard on Aug. 15 or Aug. 22 do to the Annual Hockey School. Hockey school approaching The Annual Dave McLlwain Hockey School will be held at the Seaforth and District Community Centres from Aug. 12 through to Aug. 24. Included with the school is the annual Summer Showcase hockey game featuring the Hockey School instructors as well as area professional and junior hockey players. The hockey game will be held on Aug. 16, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Seaforth and District Community Centres. Proceeds from the game will go towards Seaforth and District Minor Hockey. The 15th John Anderson Memorial Shoot was held on July 22 at the Kippen Gun Club with 22 shooters on hand. Results were: A class, Bill Wylie 98; B class, Art Fisher 96; C class, Maurice Staley 94; Junior, Brett Crerar 80; Hi Handicap Brad Mann 88; Hi Overall Art Fisher 192. Correspondents Family celebrates couple's 5oth anniversary The family of Ben and Theresa Nyland of Dublin, had a Mass of Thanksgiving for their parents at St. Patrick's Church on July 28 on the occasion of their 50th anniversary. Their son, Father Martin Nyland, co - celebrated the Mass with his priest - friend, Father Dennis Howard, and Father Tom Janisse (formerly a Dublin Pastor) who was welcomed by former parishioners. The homily was given by Father Howard, who began with a beautiful picture of the Sacred Heart. He reminded us that Ben and Theresa were "Living Images of the Faith" and • passed it on to us. At the end of Mass, Father Martin presented to his parents a beautiful plaque. Following the Mass, there was a wonderful open house in the Parish Hall. Congratulations to Chris Van Bakel, son of John and Mary Van Bakel, and Linda D'Addario, daughter of Michael and Ann D'Addario, who were united in marriage on July 21, at St. Alfred's R.C. Church, St. Catharines. The newly married couple are honeymooning in the Dominican Republic and will be residing in Grimsby. Rita Kelland, Londesboro and Eileen MacRae, Dublin, visited with their long time girlfriend, Agnes (Hart) Lucarz - home from Battleford, Saskatchewan at the home of her sister, Vera Flood in Woodstock last Monday. Agnes has spent a few days with Rita in Londesboro and called also on her brother Leslie and Marguerite Hart in Seaforth Manor. Happy 60th birthday to Arthur Murray, RR 1, Dublin, who celebrated on July 29. Congratulations to Kelly and Denise O'Leary on the happy arrival of a baby girl, Kassidy Mary Margaret, born on June 22 at Stratford General Hospital weighing 8 lbs. 1 oz. You'd get up and go to work. Family returns from East Coast trip as part of Scout Jamboree event Kevin and Nancy Kale, Patrick and Michael, have returned from traveling ;'down cast." Patrick went with the First Seaforth Scouts to attend the Canadian Jamboree held at Cabot Beach Provincial Park. This Jamboree attracted 14,000 Scouts from all over the world including Africa, England and the United States. The rcst of the family travelled separately and joined him there. They crossed the Confederation Bridge, visited Province House (the provincial Parliament Buildings) in Charlottetown, saw whales off the Cape Breton coast and toured King's Landing (pioneer By Ma Ry 345- ry C. an 2560 St. Columban village) outside Fredricton. On the way home, they toured Quebec City and visited Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Frank and Patsy Crowley visited St. Catharines where they attended the wedding of Chris Van Bakel and Linda D'Addario. They also spent a day in Niagara Falls. Mary Jane Coyne recently visited in Ottawa where she attended the wedding of a friend and did some sightseeing. Cor and Wilhelmina Kroon from Eindhoven, Holland, visited with Ken and Anne Murray and family, who are cousins, and visited other relatives in the area as well. Another "Family Day" is being organized for Bingeman's Park in Kitchener. It will be on Aug. 23. Included in a day of fun are the water slides, kiddy play area, bumper boats and wave pool. Everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch and come along. Families can also pack up the car and join us at Canada's Wonderland on Monday, Aug. 27. For further information, contact Rhonda Nolan. The people of St. Columban are preparing to hold Cemetery Sunday agair this year. Mass will be celebrated in the St. Columban Cemetery on Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
