Huron Expositor, 2001-07-25, Page 11Correspondents Strawberry social brings community Seaforth Manor Nursing Home Several family members, guests and visitors joined our residents for our Annual Strawberry Social, held each year in honour of Seniors Month. Delicious shortcake topped off with fresh strawberries and whip cream had everyone's tastebuds tantalized. Carol Carter entertained with wonderful piano music as residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon social. The weather co- operated beautifully for our Annual Family BBQ on our front lawn. Over 200 residents and their guests enjoyed excellent entertainment provided by Gladys Van Egmond and Her Merry Makers. Everyone was treated to a wonderful barbequed meal prepared by our dietary staff. This event was made possible through the combined effort of many staff and volunteers. It truly was a memorable, enjoyable evening for all. Several residents toured off to Goderich to view our display which was set up for Suncoast Mall's Senior's Fair. They enjoyed a fashion show as well as touring through some of the stores at the mall. Our Canada Day party was the grand finale to our month of celebrations. Marie Flynn and the Huron Strings entertained outdoors with excellent music to everyone's delight. Our building was decked out with red and white bows and every window sported a Canadian flag. All of our residents wore their specially made Canada Day hats and received hand flags and Canada flag pins on their way out to our lawn. This festive event was truly a tribute to celebrate Canada's birthday. Families enjoy day at Bingeman's By Mary C. Ryan 345-2560 St. Columban Several families from the St. Columban area enjoyed a family day at Bingeman's Park in Kitchener last week. Although the day was overcast, the water in the . waterpark was warm and there were few lineups at the different attractions. A future "Family Day" at Bingeman's is planned for August, as well as a day to Canada's Wonderland, Rhonda Nolan is co- ordinating the events. We have some very talented young people in our area. Devon Burke, Bryan, Jayne and Emily Van Bakel, Kyle Klaver, Matt Lang and Morgan Henderson participated in the annual C.M.L. event held in Toronto. This event attracts young people from all over who compete as soloists, instrumentalists and as band members. These young people, students of Ron Frayne, won their category in the battle of the bands. St. Columban was the scene of the intermediate soccer tournament held here last Friday evening and all day Saturday. Fourteen co-ed intermediate teams participated. The teams travelled from as far as Plattsville, Thorndale (West Nissouri), St. Marys, Kintore and Embro. The St. Columban team, comprised of soccer players from the three current intermediate teams, remained undefeated at the end of the tournament, putting out Kinkora in the final game by a score of 4-1. Lynn Burke, Devon Burke, Kim,Swart and Mark and Tracey Swart are building up their strength and endurance in preparation for their participation in the upcoming Multiple Sclerosis Bike-a- thon.
