Members of the St. James Catholic Women's League gathered last Wednesday night at the Seaforth Legion for their "spring fling" featuring skits, music and other entertainment. (above, Southern Belle, Evelyn E. Nuff is master of ceremonies while Wes Brennan and Cynthia Nowak perform. Perennials topic of meeting Seaforth and District Horticultural Seaforth Horticulture Society Society met May 9 at Northside United Church. Pat Rodney welcomed everyone and called on guest speakers Nancy Smith and Susan Campbell from Stewart Acres. They had brought perennial plants and spoke on making a perennial bed. Start with a good foundation of soil, peat moss and sheep manure, water every day after planting but do not fertilize until two weeks after planting, using 6, 9, 7 strength. Members were given a booklet with a list of perennials. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Bea Stoll and roll call was answered by 29 members. Dilys Finnigan gave the treasurer's report. Arthur Horst reported one of the millennium trees had been replaced but there is still another one that was broken this winter. Heather McLean reported on a bus trip set for July 11 and there is a restaurant so a bag lunch is not necessary. An invitation was read from the Blyth Horticulture Society to its May 14 meeting and Brussels to its May 28 meeting. Nancy Kale reported on the Home and Garden Tour scheduled for June 8-10. Members signed up for when they can help and for donations of cookies and squares. Peg DeJong reported for Civic Improvement. Bea Stoll gave a report on the Ontario Horticulture Association annual meeting held in Chesley, April 28. Pat Rodney took material from the Ontario Horticulture Association Convention to be held in Toronto June 19-21. Pat Rodney presented Arthur Horst with a service certificate and rose bowl. He made a fitting reply. Huron Junior Farmers looking for new members The Huron County Junior Farmers have Huron County Junior Farmers already hosted two successful events in 2001; the Coming out of Hibernation dance in Dublin and the Young Farmers Forum Seminar and Dance in Seaforth. Projects currently in progress are the Seaforth Fall Fair dance which .will feature a BX93 Video Dance Party and the Huron County Christmas Bureau project. If anyone would like to contribute Canadian Tire money to the Christmas Bureau project, contact Pam, 273-1714, Jane, 527-1301 or Mike, 263-5070. Events coming up are the Port Elgin Raft Races on May 27, Wasaga Broomball Tournament July 6-7 and Surviving on the Bruce Leadership Camp, July 20-22. Junior Farmers is a non-profit organization for young people aged 15-29. Despite the name, it is not restricted to those with a farming background. If you like to have fun and meet new people, junior farmers is for you. The group donates funds to several local organizations as well as to the provincial charity, this year being the Country Heritage Experience (formerly the Ontario Agriculture Museum). Our main objectives are to promote agriculture and better our communities. Junior Farmers is an extension of 4-H and is an excellent opportunity for youth to continue benefitting from such a self - improving program. Anyone interested in joining the Huron County Junior Farmers can call Pam'at 273-1714. Mother's Day breakfast a success Mother's Day and his wife breakfast at Carol Anne and Dublin Pavilion Brian. Chris, Alex and was successful and well -attended. Seniors Alive also had a delicious brunch following Mass on May 6. Heartfelt sympathy of the Dublin area is 0 extended to relatives and friends on two deaths that occurred this past week. Frank Elliott died on May 7 and Luella Regele died on May 8. Sympathy is extended to her son, Charles Regele Danny. THOUGHT FOR TODAY True friends are like good hooks. You don't always use them, but you know where they are when you need them.
