Water system will be turned on section at at time to avoid sediment From Page 1 turn of 2000, a connection was already made between the Seaforth and Egmondville water systems to be able to supply water to the village in an emergency. But instead of turning the water on all at once, Forrest said they will bring one section of the community onto Seaforth's system at a time to avoid issues such as stirring up too much sediment that will come through people's water. Forrest said there will be some sediment no matter what but that it won't take long to clear it out of the system. "We want to try and do it with the least amount of problems," said Forrest. Until the committee starts making some progress, Forrest said Huron East has no idea when Egmondville will be officially connected to the system. Personnel committee formed Meanwhile, a personnel committee has also been formed after Mayor Lin Steftler pushed for the need to have one to handle a number of personnel matters tbat have been coming up under the new municipality. That committee is made up of Steffler, McLellan and Seaforth Ward councillor. Dick Burgess. Walton,ON (519) 527-0245 • (519) 887-6365 April 24. Graeme Craig and George Townsend were at Huron East Council's April 3 meeting to request continued funding for this year. The money requested is the combined contribution of all five municipalities that now form Huron East. All five had previously contributed to the association whic% hosts the Huron County Plowing Match each year. Both stressed the importance the association and plowing matches have for the area and Townsend stressed how much the association has benefited youth. Three youth from Huron East have represented Canada at the international level and eight in Huron East have been eligible for college scholarships through their involvement in plowing. "One of our main goals is to keep our youth involved in the plowing match," said Townsend. Craig pointed out that without a county -level association, Huron County could not have been host to the International Plowing Match held near Dashwood in 1999. He said the event brought an estimated $10 million in spending in the county during a four-year period as the event was set up and then from the thousands of people who came to the area for the match. In Seaforth, he said the First Presbyterian Church was able to raise $11,000 through its participation in the match by preparing and offering sandwich lunches to the hundreds of vendors and exhibitors. However, in response to questions about how much the county plowmen's association made, Craig said they were all volunteers and little money actually came back to the association. Whether or not council will continue to support the association will be handled through the budget process with most other requests for financial support that the municipality receives. This year's county match is tentatively being hosted at a farm about two miles north of Blyth. Huron East's first quarter pleases Mayor Steffler Mayor Lin Steffler commended the new council for a successful first quarter for the new municipality of Huron East. "We've made it through the first quarter and we've survived," she said, crediting much of the success to the staff and administration who have been working to help combine the five municipalities of Seaforth and Brussels, with Tuckersmith, McKillop and Grey Township. "The councillors around this table have worked exceptionally well together. I'm very pleased and proud," she said at council's April 3 meeting. She also said she couldn't have found a better council to work with if she had hand-picked them herself. Stolen car recovered A family from the Hullett - McKillop Line had there car returned to them on 'April 2. On March 31st, shortly after 1 p.m. the car, a 1990 Chev Lumina, was taken from the farm laneway. Police recovered the car on Winthrop Road, no damage was done to it.
