Toy sanitizing, cleaning service
being offered by Children's Centre
By Scott Hilgendorff
Expositor Editor
To help prevent .the
spread of illnesses, the
Seaforth Cooperative
Children's Centre is
offering a new toy
sanitizing service.
Working with the Huron
Employment Resource
Centre and the
Partnerships in
Employment program, the
centre has been able to
hire Ryan Jewitt.
"We have found by
regularly disinfecting toys,
it prevents the spread of
viruses," said Shirley
Brooker, administrator at
the centre.
Jewitt will be spending
three part days a week at
the centre cleaning and
disinfecting toys.
Two days will be spent
going through the centre's
toys with the hopes of
everything being
disinfected once every two
weeks.
Fridays are available for
the public to bring toys
and have them disinfected
for a minimal fee.
Brooker is encouraging
banks, doctors' offices and
other places that make toys
available to children, to
take advantage of the
service.
Signs being cut down,
911 signs stolen
By Scott Hilgendorff
Expositor Editor
County road employees are growing concerned about the
number of signs being torn down, stolen or damaged on
area roads.
Most recently, someone took the time to use a handsaw
to cut down a county welcome sign and leave it lying on
the ground.
It was found by Joe Hallahan, a maintenance foreman
with Huron County Highways on Monday on County Road
14 near Brodhagen.
He's surprised someone would take the time to do
damage like that and said it's the third time it's happened.
Two more were cut down near Staffa last year.
"We've lost a lot of 911 signs in the area last week too,"
Hallahan said.
While 911 signs often have to he replaced because of
theft and damage, he said, "It's been quiet all winter just
until last week."
A neighbour where thc county sign had been cut down
told Hallahan he didn't notice anything suspicious and
hadn't realized the sign had been cut down.
Hallahan is hoping residents will help keep a watch on
suspicious actions, record licence plate numbers if they see
anything unusual and call thc police.
He is concerned the vandals don't realize the danger they
cause someone by taking down 911 address numbers or
street signs which emergency vehicles use to locate homes
in emergencies.

She said so many people
touch the toys and children
will put them in their
mouths, placing them at
risk of picking up viruses
and infections carried by
others who have• used the
same toys.
"They're so easily
spread from one person to
another," she said.
Individuals can also
bring toys from home.
The service is available
Friday and toys can be
dropped off at the centre
from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Jewitt will be working
with them from 1 p.m. to 4
p.m. and they can be
picked up anytime between
and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. that
day.
Jewitt is charging a
minimal fee for 30 minutes
of cleaning.
"He can clean a lot of
toys in that time," said
Brooker.
