Rod Parker wins for Bluewater's Hensall Ward
By Angela Pickering
Lakeshore Advance Staff
Victory tasted good Monday
night for new Deputy Mayor
Paul Klopp and Councillor -
at -Large Diane Denomme.
After a very long night of
waiting, the final votes came
in at 2 a.m. Tuesday
morning.
Although not official until
all the votes had been
counted, it was a noted
landslide for Klopp and
Denomme way before the
end. Victory was proven for
the two candidates as the
numbers definitely pointed
toward them each time votes
were tallied for each ward.
Klopp and Denomme won
every ward, leaving no
questions about whom the
people of the new
municipality wanted.
In an interview, Klopp told
the Lakeshore Advance that
the number of votes he
received was not the point.
He said it is how well you do
after the job is given to you.
"I think people were
looking for a change. They
wanted a fresh face," said
Klopp, referring to the huge
margin between him and Jim
Love.
"People got my message
that I wanted to work with
them to make the new
municipality a great one."
He added he was relieved
after the final numbers were
in, but said it was hard to
keep the pace when the votes
were coming in so slowly.
"I am feeling good. It
would've been different
though if the wave of
momentum had kept up. It
took such a while for the
votes to come in."
Klopp said he is excited
about working with the new
council and looks forward to
the work ahead.
"You have to go in with a
positive attitude right off the
bat. That's the only way to
make it work."
Klopp celebrated his
victory into the wee hours of
the night as many were
gathered at the Stanley
Township Complex in Varna.
Denomme, who was
running against Nick
Nicholls and Gerald Shantz,
also took victory by a large
margin. The votes were
leaning hard her way right
from the start, and when the
final votes were tallied.
Denomme had won two
times more votes than
Shantz.
"People believed me when I
told- them "'commitment,
commitment, commitment.—
said Denomme.
She said she is excited
about the amazing dynamics
of the new council.

out there. which made it
