The ladies oi' the United church
have arranged to hold a lawn social
on the grounds of Carmel church
on Monday evening, Aug. 24th. A
good program of music, songs and
readings is being prepared. The
program will begin at 8 o'clock after
which refreshments will be served.
A silver collection will be taken.
Everybody is welcome to come and
enjoy a social evening.

Park last Saturday night. This is a
splendid institution, and we want to
see even bigger crowds yet. Come
to Crediton on Saturday nights to
do your shopping; bring the child-
ren, and see the show. Next Satur-
day night there willl be another free
moving picture show providing the
weather is suitable. These shows
will be held each Saturday evening.

Mrs. A. Melick, who spent the past
week visiting relatives and friends
in different parts of Michigan re-
turned home Monday.
A very painful accident happened
to Master -Cecil • little. when he sus-
tained a fracture of the right arm.
Cecil was' helping hie `" father Mr. H.
Uttley, in the swamp in loading
some pine stuinps, and in some way
a large stump overbalanced, and
failing on tele little fellow, fractur-
ed his aria.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Jacob Moyer, of Kit-
chener, . visited with relatives and
friends here -last. week.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Schiefle who
visited relatives here for a few
weeks returned to their home in De-
troit.
Mr. and Mrs. David Grotschalk of
Bad Axe, Mich.; are visiting at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Lipphardt
as well as other friends.
Mr. Jonathan Bleam, of Elkton,
Mich, accompanied by his son Rev.
Wm. Gleam, of Indiana, are visiting
at the home:. of the former's sister,
Mrs. G. Merner.
Mr. Milton Heyrook, of Detroit,
visited at the home of Mrs. S. Ren-
nie, he war on his way to New Ham-
burg. -
Workman are busily engaged in
putting up the new cable of the Hay
Telephone System. It will extend
to the northern part of the village
and will take in a large number of
private phones as well as rune'
lines. c,
Hay Council
Regular meeting of. this Council
was held in the Town Hall, Zurich,
on Monday August '3rd. All mem-
bers present. Minutes of, the pre=
vious meeting were adopted..
By-law No. 8-1925, authorizing
the Reeve and Treasurer to borrow
certain sums of money from the
Bank of Montreal to meet current
expenditures were read three times
and finally passed.
The following rates were struck
and will be levied upon the rate-
abe property of the Township of
Hay for the year 1925, and a By-
law
