Bermuda and U.S. golfers
attend local men's tournament
The Canadian Open and
the Seaforth Men's
Invitational went head to
head again this year and both
were a resounding success.
i -imagine that most golfers
and non=golfers were glued
to their television sets on
.Sunday afternoon as -Tiger
did what Cam and i expected
him to do as soon as he won
the British Open in July. He
came to Canada to add
Trevitto's triple Crown
record to his stat book,apd
take home the trophythat his
hero.. Jack Nicklaus.never
could.
i was on the putting green
Tuesday afternoon when the
young golfing phenom made
his way to the practice area.
It was reminiscent of the
paparazzi that followed
Princess Diana everywhere
she went. . • .
Photographers, reporter;,
security guards and fans all
tripping over each other as
Tiger strode purposely 'to the
far end- of the range to hit
some shots..
I felt • a • mixture 'of
sympathy and admiration:
sympathy for the fact that
there is no peace for the man.
If he doesn't keep moving
the followers are like gnats
.that will pounce -on him.
demanding autographs and
• answers. ,
1 telt admiration for the.
• fact that in spite of. the
hullabaloo around him. he
can reman focused on the
.task at hand atterhitting
some shots on the range he
passed near on his way to the
. putting. green and bunker
area where he proceeded to
work on his game.
I 1)watched as he holed tour
out of 10 chip shots , the guy
truly is amazing -
He proved .it again on
. Sunday when he hit that six
Iron onto the 18th from- the
bunker. What skill. What
-panache: What intestinal
Tartan chameleon
fortitude. What a champion!
Let's hope he,defends in
Montreal.
i. think he will for the
additional reason that he
missed the cut there the last
time the Canadian Open was
played at Royal Montreal.
Ken Doig Jr. worked for
Sandy Lyle this past week.
The . former Masters
Champion made the cut and
had a good round on
Saturday.
Steve Bennett was at the
Open on Thursday following
Mike Weir who had a tough
week. There were lots of
Seaforthians who made tie
trip to Oakville. -
Don't forget this week you
can see the Canadian Tour in
Sarnia at Huron Oaks where
Mike Weir developed his
stellar golf game.
Competition begins on'
Thursday.
The. Seaforth Men's
Invitational hosted 140
golfers from all over Ontario.
as well as from Bermuda and

the team of Cam Doig, Rollie
