Tuckersmith will pay $5,000 at the time of approval of the grant and $5,000 at the time of the approval of the action plan. Sewage being studied Tuckersmith Township council is asking the, Ministry of the Environment for a second one-year extension to further study the Vanastra Sewage Plant. Tuckersmith was told by the MOE a year ago that is was having by- passes (or an overflow of diluted sewage) during the spring melt or heavy rain storms into the Vanastra'drain. During the past year, Tuckersmith Township 'recorded eight by-passes, only two of which "had any large quantity," said Clerk -Treasurer Jack McLachlin. "There are very few sewage' plants that don't have some by-passes at some time," said, McLachlin. He said council's second year o'f study on the by-pass problem will probably result in, the installation of a holding tank. Steve Burns, of B.M. Ross and Associates, told council the sewage plant was built in the early 1940s and is well beyond its life expectancy but operates very efficiently 95 per cent of the time. He told council it could complete a study to determine the best course of action, ask for a further one-year extension to gather additional information and apply for a grant to rectify the situation at an estimated cost of $2,500 to $3,000. r L News THE HURON EXPOSITOR, May 10, 2000-11 Scott Hilgendorff photos Lions Park was pocked Saturday morning for the annual Lions Club trout derby for children 14 and under.
