Golfing mentors help beginners with game

people who have
accomplished a task that took
several • weeks of
commitment.. These areour

This year. for the vett': first
time. die Seaforth Golf Club
:arranged for a unique.
opportunity to allow
inexperienced and
expenenced golfers to play
some golf together and learn
a bit about the tradition.
etiquette: and rules of golf.
Each Monday evening some
of our members accompanied
some true beginners as they
played a few holes of golf in
an effort. to ,familiarize
themselves.with the game

The graduates of this year's
Monday . night mentor

McLachlan. Elza Ruston.
Wade. Holland. Sherri
McLachlan. Joan Petrie. and
Doug MacGregor. These new
golfers successfully.
completed five nights with at
last one night being a nine -
hole round.•Thev watched_
videos on golf etiquette and
passed a short test on • rules
and safety. Most "importantly
they learned. that golf is a
great way to spend some
time with friends-- and
associates and that regardless
of how well v.ou hit the ball
or what your'score is. you
can still enjoy this game of a
lifetime.
We were fortunate to have
some of'our members act .as
mentors dunng the Monday
night mentor program. These
members were there to help
the beginners trend their way .
around the course without
feeling. intimidated. or
uncomfortable because •of
unfamiliarity. We thank the
following mentors: Cathy
and Doug Elliott. 'Ken Doig
Sr., Cam Doig. C.A.
Ruth Snell and Drusilla
Leitch. We hope to do -the
same program in 2000. .•

are complete. Men's club'
champion is Chris \tarion
who defeated Jerry Wright on
the first extra hole playoff.
The senior men's champion
is Brian Career. the junior
champion is Keegan Teichert
and the ladies' champion is

who defeated Betty Burns to
take the title. The junior
champion is Curtis Bennett.

This Sunday afternoon Is

Junior Buddy Day. This is a
great • opportunity for
• members and non-members
to play some golf with their
children. grandchildren.
neighbours or whoever. If
you don't have a 'Muddy-' to
golf with we'll pair you up
for the nine -hole two -person
scramble. Lunch is served
afterwards and.•there are
medals for winners. in

Thanksgiving. The golf is
scheduled for 1 p.m:. on
