Manning has solution to illegal migrants
To the Editor,
I am totally amazed at the
federal Liberal government's
inability to solve the influx
of illegal migrants from
China and other
impoverished countires. Like
Cuba to hijackers, we have
become a haven for all of the
economic migrants of the
world and a dumping ground
for the criminal operation of
people smuggling. These
people know that all they
have to do is get on a boat.
sail to Canada, and presto,
the promised land. They
don't worry. about getting
caught as our military and
coast guard are so
underfunded that they won't
be able to see them until they
are on shore.
I do not hold the 600 or. so
(that we know about) recent
illegal migrants responsible
for this mess. They are
merely looking for a better
life. One can.hardly blame
them for trying to leave their
impttve -hed lifestyles in
searc' ter times. But
we ha' • ace the facts.
tit • " .:,nomic migrants
ant .,d be made to go
through the proper
immigration channels. They
are not refugees by our legal
standards or the standards of
the . United Nations
Convention on Refugees.
Having said all that, who is
responsible for this dire
situation? I, personally, hold
the Liberal government
responsible for the
encouragement of this people
smuggling. by their inaction.
Immigration Minister Elinor
Caplin stated hack on Sept. 1
that she was counting on bad
weather to put a halt to the
influx of illegal Chinese
migrants landing in British
Columbia. Unbelievable!
Canadians and the thousands
of legal immigrants are
justifiably upset at the queue-.
jumping, and the Minister is
merely sitting around hoping
that it rains. Give me a
break!!
Once again, Preston
Manning and the Reform
Party" are the only ones
showing true leadership in
coming up with a solution to
this serious problem. -The
Reform Party ' supports
detaining the illegal migrants
and the holding of immediate
hearings to determine
whether or not they are
legitimate refugees. This
determination must be
Stricter bylaws needed to stop
recent unbearable stink in town
To the Editor:
I do not know who was responsible for liberally spreading manure in our lovely Seaforth
area this past week. I do know. however,.that.the smell was unbearable, forced us to keep
windows closed night and day for four days and. in this most beautiful time.of year. made
any outdoor activity extremely unpleasant.
Is this acceptable?
Does anyone else mind? Judging by the reactions and comments from people in downtown
Seaforth during those few days, I think a lot of people mind very much. Could the perpetrator
have been more community -conscious by working the material in question into the ground
immediately? (Four days!)
Let's raise a ruckus about this - write letters, lobby for stricter by-laws, let it be known that
it is NOT okay. In other words, make a stink about it!

Once the refugee status is
determined upon. legitimate
refugees are welcome to

By doing this we are sending
a message to the people

immigration and it would put
a stop to this madness.
