A Fabulous selling System
This article has specific
advice so that you can com-
municate more effectively
with your customers, there-
fore you will increase sales.
(You have just read a set of
words that form a selling
statement.)
Selling is about words. It is
about you communicating
with your customer. What
you say to the customer is
very important to the entire
process. The customer is
looking for logical support
for a decision he or she has
already made. But while
you must address that need
for logic, you cannot ignore
the emotional needs that
prompted their decision. It
was those emotional needs,
the benefits they will receive
from buying the product,
that brought them to you in
the first place. It is neces-
sary therefore that you pro-
vide the support in both
areas, through the words you
use.
The key to this process is the
'FAB' system. 'FAB' is an
acronym for FEATURE,
ADVANTAGE and
BENEFIT.
First define a FEATURE of
the product. Secondly detail
the ADVANTAGE that the
feature gives and thirdly,
relate that advantage to a
BENEFIT that the customer
will receive from owning or
consuming the product.
In order to understand how
to do this we must under-
stand the components.
A FEATURE is a fact about
a product. (For example,
that microwave has a 1.8
cubic foot capacitji.)
An ADVANTAGE is a state-
ment about what it does.
(That will let you cook an
eighteen pound turkey.)
A BENEFIT tells the cus-
tomer what they have to gain
from the FEATURE. (That's
big enough to let you have
your whole family over for
supper.)
When you define the feature
and express the advantage
you provide the logic that
the customer is looking for.
The benefit is oriented
toward the emotional button
that caused the customer to
come to you in the first
place.
This simple formula pro-
vides the ideal format for
customer conversations. It
directs your words toward a
verbal definition of what the
customer needs.
The framework is simple
and the words are easy.
FEATURE This has.
ADVANTAGE So that.
BENEFIT Therefore
you
The use of the, "This has...,
So that..., Therefore you
formula won't let you forget
that the customer is primari-
ly interested in what the
product can do for him or
her. A product's features
have tittle importance until
they are translated into the
language of customeabene-
ftts.
"This table saw has an
acrylic blade guard so that
your fingers can't get near
the blade. Therefore it is
virtually impossible to cut
yourself." FABulous!

ings & sales conventions.

Huron
Strings
performs
Marie Flynn and The
Huron Strings provided an
evening of music at the
Aug. 26 birthday party.
Residents, family members
and the seniors dining
group all enjoyed the
evening.
Birthday greetings to
Leila Becker, Edsel
Ducharme, Annie Reid,
Lorna Spencer and Bea
McKenzie.
Winnie Hutton, pastoral
care volunteer led a
meaningful memorial
service on Aug. 31 for Irene
Finlayson, Kathleen
Lambert and Rose Walzack
who have passed away in
recent months. Staff and
residents expressed their
thoughtsfand memories of
these people whom we have
known and cared about.
Ice cream parlours were
held outside the past two
Monday afternoons.
Everyone savoured the taste
of the sundaes of their
choice. A couple of people
did discover the
disadvantage of sitting in
the shade of the large trees
outdoors that are home to,
numerous birds. It's just one
small inconvenience
everyone chuckled about.
Staff attended an inservice
Thursday afternoon on tire
drills and evacuation
procedures in preparation
for a drill sometime next
week.
Residents continue to
benefit from morning fun
and fitness sessions and
mental aerobics. This week,
wediscovered Palindromes.
These are words that are
spelled the same forward
and back. There are many
and everyone had fun with
them.
Residents are also in the
process of deciding which
trip they wish to take this
month. We have a choice of
The Threshers Reunion,
Western Fair, Harmony
Kings concert or the
Plowing Match. Logistics
may affect the decision.
