Spring Scramble a successful tournament
Four guys and a tourney.
What a great example of
community co-operation that
makes everyone a winner.
The Spring Scramble that
took place on Saturday was
organized by Marc Robinet,
Doug Fry. Brian Nigh and
Cam Doig. It was great to see
the way the fellows worked
together to make this
relatively new tournament a
great success for all
involved. The event, which
raises money for the
Seaforth and District Food
Bank, has become the kick-
off event for the area's golf
season. Great co-operation
from various businesses in
the area and avid
participation from the golfers
themselves has made this
event the tournament of
choice in early May.
It was, for the first time, the
perfect day for the tourney.
Instead of the usual toques
and turtlenecks. the smell of
sunscreen lingered in the air
as golfers prepared for their
round of golf. The format
was a three-man scramble
with two teams playing
together to create good fun
and rivalry. Forty-two teams
took part with a total of 126

golfers. Many of the players
were from Seaforth but there
were other former members
and Seaforth residents, as
well as guests from farther
afield.
Following a burger lunch.
the 18 holes of golf were
played before enjoying a
great dinner and visiting the
prize table. Everyone
received something from the
prize table and, of course, the
big winner is the food bank
which benefits from the
tourney's profits. This year, a
portion of the profit will be
given to the Bob Phillips
family.
A tie for first place at nine
under par was broken with a
shoot out on the 9th hole.
Kevin Benne¢t's team
defeated Chris Marion's
team in the shoot out to
claim the championship and
have their names inscribed
•
on the tournament plaque.
There were prizes for closest
to the holes and longest
dove, in addition to the prize
table. Dick Burgess and his
daughter, Jessica, took
pictures of each group so that
they would have an official
memento of a great day for a
great cause.
The Ladies Night opening
was held on Thursday with
about 30 ladies taking part in
a nine hole scramble
followed by a potluck dinner.
Sharon Stephan, Ruth Snell,
Mary Moffatt and Barb
Norman made up the
Winning team.
On Friday the golf course
sponsored a Junior Golf
Clinic on the PA Day.
Seventy eight boys and girls
took part in the four hour
session.
Now that we're into May,
the Senior group,will set
