Lamont garnered the •majority of 341 ballots cast at the nomination meeting in Lucknow on March 27. . "It's a big job. and not an easy fight," said Lamont after. being named the successful candidate. "We'll, do it street _ by street; poll by poll.' riding "by riding to make Dalton (McGuinty) the next leader of !this province." . About 400 Liberal supporters • turned out for the meeting to hear Lamont and Qoderich's Joan Van den Broeck who also_sought the 'nomination: :Both candidates zeroed' in on four areas: agriculture, cddcation, -health care and energy. • "The growing alarm of what Mike Harris is doing to the Ross Lamont Common Sense Revolution doesn't have the words farm or agriculture in it?" asked Lamont. He is the .immediate past president of the Ontario Liberal party; was campaign chair for Dalton McGuinty's leadership race and campaign manager for Bruce Lauckner in 1995, Murray .Elston' in 1990 and 1987. Heather Robinet, the town's representative on the BIA said. "Despite the poor turn -out► it was a good meeting." • She said they 'planned upcoming promotions and - looked at town beautification projects.•- -One• of them includes plans for murals depicting aspects of the . town's heritage. With just a handful of people. she said it was great to see how much they could accomplish. ' "It'd be amazing how much we could get going if we had a good turn -out." she said at council's March 23 meeting. . Survey results are in The Business Retention and Expansion Committee will be releasing information from a thorough survey conducted of area businesses last year. Thesurvey involved'. businesses, farms and service providers and was conducted' in efforts to help find, ways to help improve existing businesses and attract more.
