THE ORANGE
There once was a boy
named Thomas. His family
was very poor. His mom
worked at a box factory and
made little money. Thomas
tried to take care of his little
sister and his older sister
Brenda tried to help out by
working nights at a restaurant.
Thomas was the only kid in
his family that went to school,
because that's all they can
afford. He was often made
fun of because of his dirty
clothes and unkept body.
There was one kid at school
named Ron who really made
his life miserable. Every
chance he got he teased
Thomas, until one Christmas
he realized how poor Thomas
really was.
It was Christmas Eve and
Thomas was cleaning out his
desk. He grabbed his torn and
;used notebooks and broken
pieces of charcoal he had
picked up off the street to use
for pencils. He was in the
Christmas spirit, happy as can
he because this year he was
hoping to get a chocolate
Santa for Christmas. He
hoped and prayed every night
that he would get a taste of
the smooth creamy chocolate.
His thoughts were interrupted
when Ron pushed his desk
over.
"Why did you do that?"
asked Thomas.
"Because I felt like it
dirthag!" Ron announced.
Thomas started picking up
the books that were sprawled
all over thc floor and stuffed
them into his plastic bag he
used for a bookbag. When he
was finished he stood up and
walked to his toppled desk
and began to put it up. Ron
interfered again saying,
"What do you want for
Christmas? A bathtub?"
Thomas felt like crying but
didn't show'it. Rein was about
to say something else but the
bell rang. Thomas jumped out
of the way of Ron and headed
home.
When Thomas got home his
mom told him to go to the
.grocery store and pick up a
basket of oranges and the
Toney was on thc table. Hc
scooped up the dimes and
nickels and ran out the door.
At the grocery store he found
the oranges and headed to the
till but all of a sudden Ron
jumped out in front of him.
"What arc you doing'?
Christmas shopping'?" Ron
giggled.
"No!" Thomas answered.
"Well I better let you pay
for your Christmas presents."
"They're not my Christmas
presents."
Little did they know that
oranges wcrc Thomas'
families presents.
Thomas got homc and sct
the oranges on the table and
went to the wood shed and
got an arm full of wood. Hc
set it beside the fireplace and
went and had supper. Aftcr he
got ready to go caroling. His
favourite song was Rudolph
The Red Nosed Reindeer. He
ran to his bed in thc corner
and pulled out his warmest
sweater. Thcn he grabbed his
old torn jackct off the ooat
hanger and by then ,everyone
was ready to go. They went to
every house on their block
and wcrc ready to go homc
when Thomas spoke up
saying, "Can wc go to Ron

Rudolph The Red Nosed
Reindeer?"
"1 don't see why not," his
mom replied.
When they finally got there
everyone was cold but they
sang anyway. Then after a
while a face appeared out the
window. It was Ron and the
expression on his face was
disbelief. A look that said, I
can't believe he did this after
what 1 did to him! After the
song Thomas and his family
went homc. When Thomas
got horne he put some wood
into the fire and went to bed.
He hoped one last time he
would get a chocolate Santa.
He awoke the next morning
to see everyone just getting
up themselves.
"Well go sec if Santa's been
here," said Thomas's mom.
They ran to their stockings
and dumped them out. An
orange fell out of Thomas's
stocking. A jolt of
disappointment hit Thomas
and when he looked around
everyone got an orange.
"Sorry kids that's all 1 could
afford," Thomas's mom
explained.
"That's O.K. mom, we
really like oranges," Thomas
and his sisters replied.
All of a sudden there was a
knock on the door. Thomas
went and got it. When he
pulled the door open he found
Ron standing there.
"What are you doing here?"
asked Thomas.
"I just came to say thanks
for singing at my house and to
say I am sorry for teasing
you."
"It's O.K."
"Say, what did you get for
Christmas?"
Thomas showed him his
orange.
"That's all you got?"
"Yeah."
"Well I've got to go do
some thing. See yde letei*9',4'
Thomas crawled tnto bed
and went to sleep. He was
awoke by excited screams
and when he looked around
hc saw why. Thomas had
brought presents to give to
Thomas and his family and on
top was a chocolate Santa.
Thomas's hcart skipped a
beat.
"We can't except this,"
Thomas's mom said.
"Yeah, you can. It's a gift
and know what? My dad said
hc has some friends who
build houses for people with
low incomes- and he said they
can build you one."
"How can wc ever repay
you?"
"Well, you know one of
those oranges would sure
taste good right about now.
How about that for
payment?"
Everyone laughed till they
cried and everyone had the
'Orangeist and Merriest'
Christmas ever.

CHRISTMAS
One Christmas Eve Santa
was getting ready for his
yearly trip. All of a sudden
Santa didn't feel too good. He
realized he had gotten the flu.
He was so sick he decided
that he would have to delay
Christmas for a day. Then one
of his elves came up to him
and said, "Don't worry Santa,
1 will deliver thc presents for
you."

That night Santa gave
Wilber the elf, his list for the
children. Wilber was so
excited for what he was about
to do. He jumped in the sleigh
and waved goodbye and
yelled to Santa, "Don't worry,
Christmas will be just great
this year." Then he and the
reindeer up and disappeared
into the clouds.
As Wilber finished all
deliveries to Eurasia, he set
off to Canada. After awhile
Wilber started to get cold and
the reindeer started to get cold
and tired too. So Wilber
decided to take the sled down
-so the deer could rest. The
snow started to come down
harder and harder, until you
couldn't see your own feet in
front of you. Wilber took the
deer into the bush for shelter
and all he could do was wait.
After a few hours the snow
let up and Wilber and the
reindeer came out of the bush
to finish their task. The sled
was covered with snow.
Wilber started to dig the sled
Out. When he had the sled dug
out they got ready to go. They
tried to take off but there was
ice sticking to the sled so they
couldn't go anywhere. All of
a sudden Wilber had an idea.
Hc looked in the toy bag and
found a blow dryer. So he
melted thc ice off and flew
away.
Finally when the tired elf
was done he flew home but
no one was home. Everyone
was gone. He looked upstairs
and ' downstairs and
everywhere but he couldn't
find anybody. Suddenly he
hears a big "Surprise" and
everybody jumped out from
there hiding spot. The tired clf
was so happy. Then he felt a
hand on his shoulder. It was
Santa and he said, "Merry
Christmas and thank you."

• THE REAL SANTA
"Maybe we can stay up late
and wait for Santa tonight?"
asked Julie.
"No way! Santas not even
real" replied Mark, Julie's
older brother.
"Yes he is!"
"Kids, come on downstairs
and write a note for Santa"
called their mom.
Mark didn't believe in Santa
anymore because his friends
told him Santa wasn't real.
Julie still believed in Santa
and would get upset when
Mark told her otherwise. That
night Mark and Julie got a
huge surprise.

Thud, thud, thud.
"Wow. That is him!"
"I bet it's not. Let's go
downstairs and find out once
and for all he is not real. I bet
it's just mom and dad."
Mark and Julie went
downstairs. As they were
walking into the livingroom,
they heard someone rustling.
under the Christmas tree. The
person under the trcc got out.
To Mark's surprise it really
was Santa.
"It's really him!" cried Julie.
"Merry Christmas kids.
What are you doing up so
late?" asked Santa.
"Mark didn't believe in you
so we came down to see you."
"Can you two least not tell
anyone that you met me? The
other kids might get too
jealous. We will keep it our
secret."
Julie and Mark said
goodbye to Santa as hc went
back up the chimney. As he
rode away they could hear
him saying "Ho,Ho, Ho,
Merry Christmas."
Mark believed in Santa after
that. Julie was so happy she
met Santa that she decided to
try to sec him the next year.
