The Avon Maitland
District School Board is
pleased to announce the
appointment of Marjatta
Longston as Superintendent
of Education - Secondary
effective February 1, 1999.
Marjatta began her
teaching career with the
Sudbury Board of
Education in 1970. She has
taught at the intermediate
and secondary level.
During her career she has
been involved in many
capacities, including
Program Coordinator and
Administrator with the
Sudbury -Manitoulin
Children's Foundation,
Cooperative Education
Coordinator, secondment as
Associate Professor,
Academic Advisor with
Nipissing University,
Secondary Vice Principal
and Principal. Marjatta
received her Masters of
Education Degree in 1994
and her Supervisory
Officer's Certification in
1996.
Over the years, Marjatta
has participated in many
provincial organizations
related to education,
including many years
involvement with the
Ontario Cooperative
Education Association,
serving as Provincial
Director for four years.

concert was performed by

school's recorder group
and featured solo
performances by young
pianists.

resignation of Marilyn
Marklevitz, Superintendent
of Business -Finance,
Transport and Special.
Projects, from the Avon
Maitland District School
Board effective January 31,
1999, at its Dec. 8 meeting.
Marilyn Marklevitz has
been appointed as the
Superintendent of Financial
Services and Treasurer with
the Waterloo Region District
School Board, with duties to
commence February 1, 1999.
Marilyn will continue to
lead the board through the
short year and school year
budgets, which are expected
to be completed before she
leaves, and will also
complete a number of
harmonization projects
before departing.
Janet Baird -Jackson,
Superintendent of Corporate
Operations and Information
Technology, will assume the
leadership of the business
functions for which Marilyn
was responsible on' an
interim basis in addition to
continuing her present
responsibilities.
A revised senior staff
organization, to be effective
September 1. 1999, will he
developed. taking into
account the shift in emphasis.
the downsizing of the senior
staff, as well as the
experience, individual
strengths of and interests of
the incumbent supervisory
officials.

The Seaforth Recreation Department is pleased
to offer the following Fitness Classes:
TUESDAY MORNINGS: Nelva Scott will lead you through a great
morning workout, from 9:(0 to 10:00 am. designed hs Drusilla
Leitch. This workout will include using weights and tubes Tucsda�
morning aerobics will begin on January 5. 1999 and last 10 weeks.
THURSDAY EVENINGS: Suc Hannon will offer 1 hour 01
AEROBICS - STEP combined giving the participant a high pace
workout. This class will he held from 7:00 to 8:00 poi. After the
Aerobics class. Suc will slow it down with a STRENGTH &
STRETCH CLASS. This class is based on the teachings of Joseph 11
Pilates and some Yoga techniques to strengthen the core muscles
which will improve hack pain. prevent injuries and increase strength
and flexibility. (not aerobic)
All Classes are held at the Seaforth & Distnct Community Centres
