Where has the summer gone? It seems only yesterday that we were planning the season's tournaments and special events. Now we're heading into the final part of the golf season. If the spring and summer are any indication of what's ahead, then golfers should be enjoying their sport well into October and November. Right now we're planning for the various wrap-ups and of course the annual Men's Invitational Tournament, which is filling up very quickly. The event is scheduled for Sept. 12 and already we have well over 100 golfers from as far away as Bermuda, Ottawa, Delaware, Toronto and throughout southwestern Ontario. It is on the same day that the Legion Golf Tournament is held for the province and we wish the Seaforth teams all the best. The Tartan Chameleon Golf Notes by C.A. Doig, is week junior go ers have their final morning. They have had an awesome summer with many sponsored junior mornings, exciting match play events, a great invitational tournament last week, and success on the Tyson Tour too! Last week more than 80 youngsters took part in the annual Invitational. The low score of the day was a 74 shot by Joshua Hunke from Dundee C.C. Joshua is a bantam and took the title. The junior division for boys 17-18 years old was won by Brad Barnes with a 77, and the juvenile boys division was won by Tyler Devereaux with a 75. Sarah Soretta from Guelph defeated Seaforth's Lindsay McEwan on the first hole of a playoff after both young ladies shot an 82. In the nine- year-old and under nine hole competition Bucky Nelson from Stratford won with a 49. Seaforth players who fared well in the event included: Mark Phillips, Keegan Teichert, Ian McMillan, Jacob Bruxer, Mark Flanagan, Reegan Price, Brad Henderson, Steve Haney, Taylor LeBlanc, Paul Stephen, Mike Delvecchio, Jason Wilson, Curtis Bennett, Michael Roy, Brittany Caldwell, Nicole Kistner, Danielle Kistner and Mary Finlayson. Team winners at men's night were: Ken Doig Sr., Todd Doig, Brett Finlayson and Bruce Henderson. Skins were won by Chris Marion on #17 and Bruce Henderson #18. Ladies Night was a quiet night as many of the local ladies travelled to Bayview for a friendly interclub outing. The first round of the club championships was held Sunday. The men's division is close with Jerry Wright leading by one shot over Paul Selvey. Jerry shot 68. Doug Elliott is close behind after shooting a 70. In the senior men's division another close race has developed among the following players: Lee Kirkwood shot 73, Joe Dick shot 75, and both Ken Doig Sr. and Brian Carrier shot 76. Jim Watson Sr. is at 78. In the junior division, Keegan Teichert and Lindsay McEwan each shot 77 while Taylor LeBlanc and Mark Phillips are one shot back. Lindsay's 77 is six shots better than Cathy Elliott's 83 in the ladies division. The final round takes place this Sunday with the low, two -round total scores determining the winners.
