about $707,000 but the total
project also includes the removal
of the old tower and the control
system for operating the tower.
The old, 60,000 gallon tower
won't be removed until they
know the new one is operating
properly.
The new tower will hold
425,000 gallons.
"I think it's a credit to the
community," said Philips. It was
through money raised within the
community, not grants, that have
payed for the project and it was
done without a rate increase to
the residents.
The PUC started setting money
aside for this project in 1983 and
the commission decided to
proceed with the project last
year.
It will mean better water
pressure and supply for the
community.
Philips said the current tower
operates at the minimum
requirements for pressure and
the new tower will improve that
for the community, fire
department, industry and
development.
He also said if, for whatever
reason, the wells were to quit
operating, the extra water in the
new tower gives them time to
find the problem and make
repairs before there can be a
water shortage.
But, even with the old tower,
that has never been a problem in
Seaforth.
"We're very happy as a
commission," said Philips of the
overall project.
The new Seaforth water tower Is nearly complete.
To outlive a child is earthly hell

I wondered at the question
asked by the reverend
Patrick O'Neill, if our
culture took to addressing
each other with this same
Masai greeting, would it
affect our consciousness of
our own children's welfare?
If we heard that question and
passed it along to each other
a dozen times a day, would it
begin to make a difference in
the reality of how children
are thought of or cared for in
our town or our province, or
in our country?
It is no more unusual a
greeting than, "How do you
do?" We so often say it
without much thought 'abou,t"
what it really means. It is
real!) a question that is
asked countless times a day
as people meet, but it is
never really answered. We
don't think of it as a
question, which it' is...unless'
the answer comes back.
"How do I do what?"
Would it help if we had a
greeting with a real question,
rather than the few words we
mumble as we shake a
person's hand?
Patrick O'Neill has me
wondering...if everyone
among us, parent or not, felt
an equal weight for the care
and protection of all our
children in every community
in our country, could we
truly say, "The children are
well. Yes, all the children are
well."
Might corporations
sponsor billboards saying
only; "And how are the
children?" 9r signs on
busses and in subway
stations, or on supermarket
shopping bags.
What would it be like at a
press conference in the
prime minister had to
respond to a reporter's
question, "And how are the
children, Mr. Prime
Minister?" Or if every
premier had to answer the
same question at every press
conference. Would it not

be interesting to hear their
answers?
To grasp the thought of
40,000 children dieing is
beyond the limits of the
mind. Mine has not the
capacity or the strength to
bring up such an appalling
picture. And sad to think
how few are hugged before
they die or even know they
are loved.
To outlive ones child is an
earthly hell. The depth of
grief is forever measured in
tears and sad reminders of
the things we might have
done, but did not. I remind •
myself of the many times I
might have hugged my son,
and 'did not, As so often
now, when I see a small boy
with his parents, inside me is
the urge to go up and tell
them to hug him every day
and tell him they love him so
very much. For one day,
their precious son my be
taken as was mine.
Can we imagine the
sorrow and grief suffered on
the death of one child,
multiplied by 40,000. Indeed
I cannot.
Maybe if we could...our
humanity would be so
touched and charged with
the will to effect change that'
one day we would all be able
to answer, "All the children
are well."

A story in the April 29
edition of The Huron
Expositor described an
upcoming Huron County
Farm Hiker Tour Committee
event as a walking tour when,
in fact, the distances will
require driving to visit the
participating farms.
Also, a story in the same
issue identifies a Huron
Hospice guest speaker as
Anita Lobb when, in fact, her
name is Alison Lobb.

"I have lived at Seaforth
Manor for over six years
and have enjoyed the
many conveniences.
The Manor is unique in
that it offers many ser-
vices right here at the
home. There is a library
service, a banking service,
postal and taxi services, as
well as a hospital close by.
"Our necessities are provided by qualified and
friendly staff. We enjoy the many talents of resi-
dents as well, a couple are wonderful pianists.
"Some people thought I would not see 90 but I
guess I fooled them because I turned 90 last year
and still enjoy a good game of UNO.
"Ithink the grounds are beautiful and well
maintained, at Christmas time, even though it is
cold, we enjoy the lights and the outdoor crib."
