No open burning of suspect material
McKillop Township got a
letter from the Ontario
Ministry of Environment and
Energy last month. with a
copy forwarded to Seaforth,
about the "open burning of
suspect material" on Conc. 1,
Lot 28.
"Our ministry, has received
numerous complaints this
year on this situation. " wrote
senior environmental officer
Christopher J. Hutt. "The
complaints have come from
one neighbor."
He said he had visited the
site. spoken with the owner
and the complainant and
explained the ministry docs
not get involved in these
types of neighbourhood dis-
putes. adding only clean
wood and brush should he
burned and such opened pits.
"The complainant has once
again contacted this office
about this situation stating
that a number of people in
the neighbourhood are using
the burn pit to dispose of
their domestic garbage," the
environmental officer wrote.
"It is my understanding that -
garbage disposal in the area
is now being charged by the tection act." •
bag. Thus it may he the case
that people are trying to save
a few dollars by burning their
garbage and inadvertently
causing smoke .and odour
problems in the neighbour-
hood.
"Could you please have this
situation addressed.

residents of the township
and/or town are incinerating.

passing a population of about
20,000 people Yamamoto-
Chapman reported.
Reeve Brian Ferguson
asked her how Bluewater
feels about recent newspaper
articles wondering whether
blue boxes aren't as good an
idea now as they once were.
She said the coverage has an
urban and private sector hias.
and that the Bluewater asso-
ciation is non-profit and ori-
ented more towards waste
management in the long
term.
Aluminum cans remain
profitable, and a staple of the
Bluewater operation. the spe-
