A state-of-the-art trip, electronic discovery and modern education...
CONTINLIED from Page 1.
can we see history as written
in stone when we can't even
really say what exactly hap-
pened yesterday).
Somehow this project and
CD Rom aren't the same,
when you try and describe it
with words on the pages of a
newspaper.
The real thing is more like a
trip, an electronic discovery -
an education.
You click here, or you click
there, and there's no telling
where you may end up.
For instance you might find
yourself sifting at an archeo-
logical dig, or viewing some
film footage of a Quaker
meeting house in Sparta, or
on a cyberfield of "The Battle
of Longwoods."
History comes alive
through various characters,
easy to relate to.
It's our history with more
than a bit of glitz.
A RARE THING
Units that are being worked
on now include immigration,
our history from a women's
perspective, and media (It's
WINIWIN!
true, don't believe everything
you read - history is written
by the winners.)
In any case, the "project-
meisters" at SDHS plan to
test their CD Rom on Ian
Hastie's OAC history class at
our same local high school
soon.
They are talking to educa-
tional publishers and profes-
sionals, now, even as we
speak, about marketing the
finished product across the
province. Profits will go back
to the board, which then may
tunnel some back to SDHS
for future ventures.
CD Roms have been made
before in Huron high schools.
The Tech 21 centre at Clinton
finished one last year on
modern dating decorum (ie.
"no" means "NO"), but it is a
rare thing in Ontario for a
school to produce a multi-
media project for a whole
course, such as SDHS is
doing.
Proceeds from its book fair
School purchases books for library
Seaforth Public School was
able to purchase $350 worth
of new books for its library
with proceeds from its most
recent book fair.
According to the school's
February newsletter, SPS has
also recently been given per-
mission from the Heart and
Stroke Foundation to form a
jump rope demo team, a team
of 18 students from Grades 5
through 8 who will demon-
strate skipping skills at area
schools and heart -related
events to raise awareness of
heart disease and encourage
healthy, active lifestyles.
Before it has even begun,
this demo team has had four
requests to perform in the
past few weeks, the newslet-
ter adds.
