This would have been her second year of bantam, but, she played the midget in! Stratford. BY GREGOR CAMPBELL Expositor Staff Seaforth's Lisa Reynolds was recently given the nod as the most improved fastball player on the Stratford midgets this season. She eared the honour. The rookie catcher finished with a .424 batting average, second best on the team. Only second baseman Sue Lyn Wirth of Baden had a higher percentage, at .484, on the Festival City's midgets, called the Boehmers. Lisa, 17, is the only loft - handed catcher in the Grand Valley league, which includes teams from Kitchener, Six Nations, London, Forest City, Waterloo and Brantford. Some of her other statistics from the season just complet- ed are impressive too. She was in the top five on the team for runs (34), hits (56) and singles (48), from 48 games played (out of 61) with 132 at bats. Her slugging average was .515, her on base average was .456 and her on base percent- age was .441. She drove in 21 runs and belted five doubles, two triples and one home run. She also on occasion plays the outfield and as designated hitter. STARTED IN C4TH Tryouts for next year's team were held last week. With numbers like hers, needless to say Reynolds made it. The coaches like to choose the team in the fall. Lisa explains, so the players can socialize and get to know each other over the winter, and get at it as soon as the ball diamonds are ready for use in the spring. The team also works out in the winter in the indoor facility in Stratford the hardball men's !loth played Ericka and Lisa for the provincial PHOTO BY GREGOR CAMPBELL REYNOLDS OF SEAFORTH - chalked up some impressive stats in her rookie season with the Stratford midgets. If that doesn't work out she just wants to play fastball somewhere at univer- sity. She lives on Mill Street, across from Optimist Park in Seaforth, and is a Grade 12 student at Central Huron Secondary School at Clinton. Reynolds also plays basket- ball, broomball, volleyball and track. She has been playing fast - ball for seven years, since she was 10. The Stratford midgets won their league tournament this season, and among other accomplishments, finished second in an international tournament at Amherst, N.Y. this season. The team is coached by Brian Wilhelm, John Rogers, John Bell and Dave Swan. Defending Morenz Division champs Centenaires start season at home this weekend The Seaforth Ceatenaires dropped their final two exhi- bition games last weekend. Their Ontario Hockey Association Junior Develop- ment League season gets underway this weekend with a pair of home games. The Cents host arch -rival Mitchell in their opener Friday night at 8:30. The Port Stanley Lakers are in town the next night, same time, same sta- tion. , i their final two pre -season starts, the Centenaires dropped a 4-1 decision to the Kincardine Bulldogs in Seaforth Sunday afternoon, after a 5-4 loss to the Brussels Bulls at Listowel. The Seaforth juniors have been on the ice since the third ished the pre -season with a record of one win and three losses. General manager Mike Henry doesn't put much stock in this as an indication of the season to come. He says the coaches used the pre -season to evaluate play- ers, whereas the two teams they lost to last weekend ine-uwent with pretty well set line- ups. .,. MORE SIGNINGS He adds the team is still looking to add some physical players. The captain of this year's squad is Steve McInally. The assistant captains are Jason Henderson, Greg Matthison and Aaron Parsons. Veterans J.C. Kirk and Brandon Corriveau have re- signed with ti e Cents, in addition to earlier signings announced last week. Goalie Charles Robertson has also signed. He was with the local midgets for much of last season, but also got his share of starts with the Cents as an affiliate player. Seaforth's juniors are the defending champions of the Morenz Division. They play in the West (Peck) Conference, with another five -team division, inclltdink defending OHA chanipiopp Mt. Brydges. The same 10 teams are back in the conteq- ence. All play 38 games this season, although there are no interlocking games anymore CONTINUED on Page 11. John A.M.
