7 -year-olds are eligible for
house league hockey and

not. The local minor hockey

ey is also tonight and tomor-
row night at the same time
and place. There is a new
peewee age division.
Registration is for girls ages
11 to 19.
St. Columban women finish fourth in first season
The St. Columban women's
soccer team capped its first
season with a 2-0 win at
Lucan last Wednesday, so
finished a very respectable
fourth in the 10 -team
London and Area Women's
League, Second Division.
The locals finished with
nine wins, six losses and two
draws for 29 points, and
ended up scoring five more
goals than they allowed. The
team had a postponed game
against the Southend Snipers
still on their schedule, but
because that fifth -place team
can't catch them in the stand-
ings, and St. Columban also
can't catch third-place Forest
United, the league has ruled
they don't have to play it.
Of St. Columban's half-
dozen losses, five were

can register for figure skat-

St. Columban's other loss
was to sixth-place
Wallacetown, who tied them
in their other head-to-head
match.
There are no playoffs.
Joanne Terpstra and Faye
Murray struck for St.
Columban in last weck's sea-
son -ender at Lucan. Danielle
Maloney earned the shutout.
Bean Fest success
and runner-up Marconi have
incredible goal differentials
of plus 94 and plus 93,
respectively, for 54 and 42
points atop the Second
Division. The Hornets played
in the Provincial League last
season and Marconi was of
First Division calibre, but
league rules make it manda-
tory for them to play this sea-
son in the Second.
Both move up to the First
Division next season, and
will be replaced in the
Second by new teams, as yet
unknown.

Organizers say this year's
Zurich Bean Festival was
another success, with about
4,300 bean and pork chop
meals served that sunny
Saturday.
It rained for three days prior
to the Aug. 23 event, and the
day after. In the 32 -year his-
tory of the annual Bean Fest
it has been rained on less
than five times.
About 700 vehicles were
displayed in the custom rod
and antique car show, run for
the past decade in conjunc-
tion with the event, "on every
piece of dry ground" avail-
able. Attendance was down
slightly.
