Once in a while I get
out with the boys - dri
carousing, howling at
noon and watching the
come up. Then the alarm
goes off, the dream ends and
I think gee, I really miss the
early '80s.
No, once a year I get a night
oU with the boys, my
sNmary's sons. It's my
Christmas present to them.
This year the deal was a
helicopter ride over Niagara
Falls, dinner and a movie. I
left them choose the
restaurant because I knew
they'd pick McDonald's and
the movie was my choice
because I knew they'd pick
something dripping with.lime
green mucous.
For the record, I ran int
several people I knew on
little excursion and rather
than explain that they're g
kids and I really think the
world of them, it was easier
just to say: "I lost a bet,
OK?" Within five minutes of
leaving their driveway
Gregory was sprawled all
over the passenger seat,
asleep. Gregory's 12 and
practisinghard to be a
teenager.
Gregory had reason to be
tired. He had just returned
from a week at camp where
he and his buddies broke a
window in their cabin, then
ripped the screen of that
window and by lighting some
sort of flammable liquid in
order to slow the onslaught of
mosquitoes, almost managed
to set their cabin on fire.
