Celebrities set to scramble for charity at local links. Saturday
II certainly has been a golf
spectator's.dream in
Southwestern Ontario lately.
In the last few weeks a num-
ber of golf events have taken
place within driving distance
of our little town. The best
known event was the LPGA
DuMaurier Classic that took
place at Glen Abbey. It was a
great tournament with some.
fine golf played by the ladies.
The Canadian ladies fared
well but it was American,
Colleen Walker, a 40 -year-
old mother who came away
with the championship•.Many
fans were keen tasee how
the women would handle the
tough Glen Abbey Golf Club.
Although it was set up con-
siderably shorter than it is for
the men and the rough was
not as deep, it was still a
great test of golf and the 14'
-under par victory is evidence
of the skill these LPGA play-
ers possess.
This past week fans could
get in the car and go two
hours in either direction for
some fine golf. The CPGA
championship, one of the
Canadian Tour's premier
events was held at the
Mandarian Golf.Club north
of Toronto. The Canadian
Tour has a lot of depth and
thc competition was fierce.
After the third round Mike
Weir of -Bright's Grove,
Stuart Hendley, from Alberta,
and David Morland of
Aurora were tied for the lead

ing PGA Tour veteran,

playoff with American, Guy
Hill. who paired the first
playoff hole for the victory.
Mike is playing well, has
already won twice this year,
and now has an exemption
into the Canadian Open
which will be held early next
month in Montreal.
Remember to cheer for Mike
who was taught by Seaforth
native, Steve Bennett. Weir's
other connection to Seaforth
is that he won his first tour-
nament ever at our Junior
Invitation. Look for Mike in
a couple of weeks at the
Greater Vancouver Open too.
Going in the oche: direction
down the 401 fans watched
the PGA Tour's Buick Open
that had one of the strongest
fields in years. The Warwick
Hills Country Club is a great
course to spectate on and
with the attendance of Tiger
Woods the fans were out in
droves. The leader board was
tight in the end Vijay, Singh
a winner in typo promotion
took the championship on
Sunday afternoon.
Celebrity Watching
If you want to do some
celebrity watching and golf
spectating you can find them
both this Saturday afternoon
at the local course. The
Huron Hospice Celebrity
Scramble is being held to
raise money for this worthy
charity. There are a member
of hockey players, golfers.
refetbes, and politicians tee-
ing.it up to support this
event. Posters are up all over •
town and at.the•timenfttis
writing there is still room to
get in to the event. Although
it is a team format, you don't
need to have a full team to
enter. We will match you up
with other golfers and.a
celebrity. The scramble for-
mat means you don't have to
be a stellar player to have a
good time. There will be a .
delicious dinner and lots of
prizes. In addition there will
be two chances to win a car if
you get a.hole in one! The
entry fee has been reduced to
$75 per person or $60 per
student in an effort to
increase the number of play-
ers.
Come out and play or come
out and cheer for local and
area golfers likes Scott
Driscoll, Rem Murray, tan

many more. Call the proshop

Hamilton's clipping (which
three others brought in - but
he was first) was an article
about firemen trying to get
dressed in a. hurry to get to a
fire and a certain item of
clothing, namely socks, being
tough to find. "Socks" was
spelled wrong, with the first
letter being replaced by
another and you can guess
which one, says thc press
release.
